Just about back to where I started.

Today
Replaced thermistor fuel level sender with one that works (Thanks Andreas)
Tried to balance carbs with a home-made ATF filled manometer.
Had to remove the carb rack to eyeball-align the butterflies back into position after I'd screwed up the manometer balance.
This was a good thing.
The removal showed the rear support strut that the carbs need after you've swapped the stock airbox for pods was fatigue-cracked so it got re-welded.
The removal also showed the throttle cable was partially frayed where it enters the lower nipple. Lucky I had a spare.
Ran the bike to check the eyeball alignment worked.
Fogged the neighborhood until the ATF that got sucked into the motor burned away.
When the smoke cleared I took off my 2 pint pony tank, put the Standard tank back on and ran the rig around the block.
Ran like a bastard until the 2nd corner then started to falter.
Remembered to turn the Standard tank's manual fuel taps back on.
Ran good all the way back home.

my turn...ordered a set of progressive front fork springs......the emulators from Race tech will be a future order...also procured a pair of XJ rear shocks...once the fork springs come in then we'll upgrade the fronts and swap out the rears... hopefully we'll firm things upo 'cause right now it aint so good...

Solved a long time obnoxious oil drip. I sort of had the feeling it was the cylinder base gasket leaking, turned out to be the oil pressure sender being loose. Now she doesn'tmark her territory!

Progressive springs are not a good choice if you plan to install emulators. Granted, I'm extremely prejudiced against progressive springs, but the experts at either Race-Tech or Traxxion Dynamics will agree with me. If progressive wound springs are what you want, you're done.

well I dont profess to know anything abt suspensions but this is what i can afford at this time..my buddy Mark says i'll be fine with this...sorry if that offends the popular vein of thought... I need an improvement and i need to get this bike ready to ride the roads we'll be on during the SE XSive Riders Rally...its going to take me until Oct to reestablish the money flow and catch up with bills...being a 10 month employee sucks...money stops for 8 freaking weeks...plus I only get paid once a month...you cant imagine what a pain in the ass that is...In fact I wont be getting my check cleared for Sept until the 30th...1 effing day after the rally...so I honestly cant even tell you if i will with 100% certainty that I will be there...same thing happend last year and i barely made it ...

Straight rate springs don't cost more than progressive springs. You said you wanted to add emulators. I'm trying to save you money. If you go to emulators later, you'll be buying springs again. Progressive springs and emulators are different technologies. Yes they will function together, but not like they should.

The money thing is a drag, but you have a job. Many people don't and I'm one of them. It's not a good place to be.

just one more example where I got my facts skewed... sorry to hear you're outta work...hadnt heard of that before......I spent 5+ yrs out of work before my present job...it may be crappy how we get paid but like you said at least I have a job...I'm planning to die on this job...I and then collect unemployment afterwards...LOL BTW I wont be combining these springs with the emulators..i just didnt know better...

I got it repainted and finish sanded yesterday........



I still have to get the throttle lock sorted out but I'm basically ready for the Lost Rally in Wisconsin.

Installed the fairing and the 3 point engine guards and the old soft bags for now.....

looks really good greg, that fairing fits in nicely. I really think I will wind up getting a fairing for mine and put the slipstreamer ss-28 on my xs750. What fairing is that exactly?
