  • Finally got around to replacing the fuel lines. While switching over to the 24 litre tank, the lines to the carb tees must've gotten jiggled a bit and decided to come loose on my last ride (after sitting in situ for over five years), resulting in a cloud of steam coming from the top of the cases when I pulled in to refuel. Looks like the vacuum valves on the taps work as the fuel leak had stopped by the time I got down to check where the stinking fuel smell was coming from. Took a while to realise that with the motor off, the flow would also stop, so I started it up and fuel was steadily dripping onto the top of the starter cover.

    All fixed now.

That's a Vetter made for Yamaha back in the day. It came off of a 81 H, a Venturer.

After riding my SG with the fairing and then getting on this bike with nothing and getting soundly thrashed by the wind out on the highway the fairing was inevitable.

Sad fact is if you're serious about touring then its darn near impossible to ride without some sort of wind protection. Once you do so then you're spoiled...altho the look of the bike may suffer...you'll wont be fighting a 70+ mph headwind all day long. The venturer fairing looks better than the regular Vetter Windjammers...I prefer the squared off lines...maybe because the the venturer's fairing was really made to fit the XS1100 and the WJ's were much more generic to fit all bikes... Green Hornet looks really good Greg. Hope you're bringing to the SE rally..look forward to seing it and you too.

While you're there, tell Bohn he needs to come back to XS Southeast. Recruit some others as well.

              • Yeah, Bohn is already planning on coming last I heard. I've only got one or two friends, and more than that is coming. lol.

That's a pic of Bohn's 750. As pretty as it is, he's not bashful about showing off his prized possession if you visit his man-cave... a brand new OEM exhaust still packed in the plastic wrap and box. It's much like a grown man sticking out his tongue at you and saying, "Nanny nanny boo boo!"

Someday, if you've got some time to kill, ask Bohn how he polishes those wheels..

                    • Synchronicity

                      No! It's not the police!

I had fun today. I put the saddlebags I bought for my '79SF on Columbo so I'll have something to use while I rebuild and paint the hard bags. One of the inexpensive plastic D-rings broke while I was installing the new bags so I replaced all of them with stainless steel D-rings from the hardware store.

After all that I went for a ride and just when I thought life couldn't get any better I came home and found two packages waiting for me! The odds of them both arriving here on the same day at the same time from two separate places on the planet are astronomical yet, here they are.

Columbo with the saddlebags from Cycle World.

Three new 1980 Yamaha XS1100G stainless steel brake pistons from HVCcycle and one new NA5904 left rear wheel bearing.

Bearing a superb gold Royal Mail stamp, a package containing a rare and elusive NA5904 left rear wheel bearing has arrived from the UK.

One of three new 1980 XS1100G stainless steel brake pistons from HVCcycle.

It looks like I'll be busy tomorrow.

                      • Installed some diodes in the turn signal circuits to stop the backfeeding on the positive side of my turn signals due to the LEDs.

Then I wrote a angry email to Superbright LEDs saying that their bulbs are not really polarized....

I agree with you there, Nate.

A bulb assembly containing some components that are individually but not separately polarized is not a "polarized bulb."

I was thinking on getting some that go under the seat but didn't know how they would fit or work. I don't want to get the throw over the seat type because I don't want the wife to have to sit on the strap.
