2017 Colorado/Western Rally

For the XS crew, Bonz,
just called "ROO" and he is also coming to the rally, for those that dont know him, last time he rode his XS1100 bobber to the rally, an Ironman to be sure to ride- no fairing, no rack, all the gear on his back,etc.....SO, he is hoping to get his "Greenie" going as last time it died in the famous Beaver Utah Black Hole, its the Kawi Nomad 1500. If not, Me and Scott are meeting in Barstow, heading up to Motomans and cruising in friday afternoon. See ya, Mike in SUn Diego

Already talked to Scott and got you all's plan of attack. Look forward to having you all here at my place for the 'overnite' thing. Anita and I planning on leading you all the 225mi. up to Kremmling in our Highlander, so all you can just sight-see and no worries where to turn,etc..

You going to bring them in on I-70 so they can see the Glenwood Canyon and ride by Vail over to Silverthorne then up to Kremmling past Green mountain reservoir (214 miles)? Or take them through Glenwood Canyon then get off at Wolcott and come up Hwy 131 to Hwy 134 and drop back into Kremmling on US40 (194 miles)? Probably similar timewise despite the distance difference. We will ride that stretch of 134 for the Hayden Loop ride day and also that will be the out and back ride for wildlife viewing (hopefully see some critters!) on an evening ride if guys want to. Really pretty, and a fun riding road.

We'll see how it goes when we wake up Friday morning. We're taking our time so we can enjoy the ride and visit instead of mainlining it and getting burned out before we get to the campground.

On the rally website (http://www.appleattic.net/Kremmling-2017/Kremmling.htm) it shows Command Central at the campground. Let's make it 5 PM, after we can go get something to eat for guys that want to. If enough guys are arriving later, we can push that time to later.

For kickstands up on Saturday, we'll decide that together at the meet and greet.

I'm here! Sorry about being incommunicado, in the process of a career switch and that's taken up a lot of my time. Got the bike fully running and taken care of today. Took it out for a quick test ride his afternoon, I have to do a few tweaks but it's good to go!

My brother is rolling along with me for the rally. Bring his VMAX (and of course he's talking a lot of trash about racing is XS guys). We are going to share a tent.

We are gonna try and get out as early as possible but his work will dictate our departure. Latest I'd imagine we'd be on the road from Florissant would be about 6PM. That puts us in Kremmling around 9-ish. We ride fast though so it may be sooner

A few questions, what's the plan on cooking and what not? Should we bring our backpacking stoves and mess kits? Will we have something to keep fireside beers cold? That's about it on my questions. Looking forward to this guys!

Take your time riding up, man. We'll be there all weekend (Try the venison and don't forget to tip your waitress!), it'd be better if the both of you were too.

Thanks for the text Sebastian, did the career switch come up suddenly? You didn't mention anything when I was up there recently. Hope it is going well!

With that late evening start, be real careful of four-legged critters, especially when/if you pick up the pace. Also, from Silverthorne to Kremmling the sheriff patrol's/state patrols are going to be out on a Friday night most likely.

As for food, sure bring a stove and mess kit to cook if you want for breakfast or dinner. In the past two rallies, we've done breakfast at a local place and guys that don't, meet there at an appointed time for kick stands up. We are typically back in easy time for dinner and do a local place to eat for those that want to. There are picnic tables under a shelter at the campsite so it would be easy to cook up some camp grub on a stove like you mentioned for breakfast or dinner.

Lunches will be on the road at whatever fine local establishment we can come up with, or pack a lunch.

I will bring Harry's coffee pot and a camp stove so we can do coffee at the campground in the morning. Guys from the hotel and motel are welcome to come join us for that as well.

Motoman is bringing the "Official XS11.com Rally Cooler", it will be there for the stocking! A number of places close to the campground to pick up beverage if you don't want to haul it on the bike.

The plan on Saturday evening is to get back from the ride (Hayden loop, unless there is a compelling weather adavantage to doing Trail Ridge road on Saturday vs. Sunday) chill out for a bit, eat an early-ish dinner, and then for those that want do a 70 mile out and back along Highway 134 to see what kind of wildlife we can see. I took evening pictures of elk and moose on my ride up there in early June.

Then Sunday is Trail Ridge Road, through Rocky Mountain Natinal Park and over to Estes Park for lunch, then ride the beautiful route backwards to Kremmling (Scott, I am going to head off your comment right now. No, we are not riding backwards looking over the shoulder).

There is a $20 per bike entry fee to the Nat'l Park for the trail Ridge Road ride. Just so it doesn't catch you offguard and as a reminder to everyone else too.
