  • Hey Crusty,

Folks with farily high mileaged or abused machines have found their rear bearings a bit worn, especially the NLA left side bearing. It can be taken apart...the seal removed, and then the inner race pulled so you can inspect it and the outer race and the roller bearings for signs of wear.

I don't know if James England has any more left, as stated they are NLA from Yamaha or other bearing sources, he was able to get a small batch made a while back, and not sure IF/When he'l ever be able to get more? So, if it's damaged/worn, then you'll need to get one somehow. The right side is still available. The left side is doublewide and that's what makes it so rare.

          • I'm on my way there, couple years until I hit number 4. I'm already showing signs, the guys at the shop watch me pace from parts shelf to welding table to bolt bins. After a few laps I stop, remember the actual task.....the circle continues

                Thank you TC.
The play is very minor, so not worth taking apart if the bearings are scarce. The #5 highway in WA is quite rough and causes the front and back end of Yami to squiggle. A better tyre will probably help the front. The rear tyre is okay, but the mass of Yami causes it to follow all the seams in the pavement. A lot of it concrete.
I have done the same trip on my Suzuki which handles the higher speeds much better.
Yami has just over 40,000 miles on him.

                • Soooooo which bearing is unobtanium? There is a mega bearing place just down the street from our shop, every single bearing from old school obscure mystery bikes we bring them, they provide. Ill split the rear drive and see what they can stir up.

                  • My understanding is it is the left side bearing in the rear wheel.

I will be going to my local bearing shop fairly soon. Tomorrow if it is not raining. I will ask them about NA5904.
I am shopping for swing arm and rear wheel bearings for my 400 Seca.

NTN NA5904 is not in Canada. But will be in stock at the end of January 015.
$31.55. Meanwhile all the bearings are available for my XS400 Seca.
But the shaft that carries the swing arm bearings is not available.

                              Hi Unkle,
Let us know IF the NA5904 arrive in January.
While I am not saying they will not..... I recall atleast two previous occasions where people were promised delivery and eventually told it was not actually available.

                              • As James England surmised... I am sure that many of us have some of these bearings squirreled away. I have 4 at the present time and only have plans for them that include me living to 193 yrs old. Might be that some members may part with theirs if asked. Myself, I am in the midst of deciding if 4 more runners is worth the effort or if I should sell of a few and regain control of the herd.
