Pretty sure the XJ forks won't work Ben. Ask Steve, he might know.Greg

As a matter of fact, now that I think of it, they are different. The XJ forks have the air valve in the upper triple tree clamp. There's a hole and a couple seals in the upper fork tube to allow that.
Helped Tod reseal his a couple years ago.Greg

Ok Thanks for that info...the 81 shocks have to be from a venturer? That will make them pretty scarce and difficult to find...I might go marty's route ...traxxion dynamics stuff...1980 XS650G Special-Two

The XJ forks can be fitted to a XS, but the brake calipers are different and you'll need to trim about 3/4" off the top of the headlight ears to make room for the air fittings. And they do have adjustable damping.....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

Traxxion Dynamics
Had them do the forks on the 1979SF. I took the forks to them off of the bike. After they do their magic to the forks, you no longer will use the OEM air option. Also bought 2 rear (Bitubo) shocks from them. Mine were gone - no dampening left in them.
As Marty and Jeff said, "the bike is transformed". TD's fork redo is not terribly expensive. It appears that it might be a lot less effort (and better results) than to put the XJ pieces on.1981 XS1100H Venturer

Thanks for your insights Mike...XJ airshocks will not be difficult to install...they came in yesterday. The front install will work with the '81 Venturer forks with no mods...rather than go the the XJ front forks... The airshock are a litle dirty and shipping had them turned upside down so the oil inside leaked out and all over the packaging but i plan to pull them apart to check and/or replace the O rings and the oil as well. Since I am really on a tight budget I will try the cheapest options first..theres always the more expensive options later...Last edited by madmax-im; 12-16-2014, 08:44 AM.1980 XS650G Special-Two

That reminds me of a saying in my industry, "There's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it over." In your case, just insert money in place of time. Sorry Ben, you're just such an easy target.Marty (in Mississippi)
