        • Classy color- looks great!

I also love the way a (your) Special looks with a tall sissy bar and nothing else. It captures the Easy Rider aura.

BTW: The weather in 'location location" appears more inviting than the weather in Detroit.

Waiting for John to get his exhaust rechromed then I'll post pics of his XS.

BTW - the weather here in "Location: location, location" otherwise known as Hurst, Texas, is supposed to be 70 today and 75 tomorrow. My best friend lives in Lansing and from what she says... yes, our weather is a skosh better than yours at the moment. lol

              • I need a new rear tire, so I removed the rear wheel. The front tire doesn't look so great. So, I removed the front wheel. The fork oil has been in there a long time. So, I removed the forks and drained them. Steering head bearings? Time to tend to the grease. I drained the oil, too. I guess I won't be riding tomorrow.

It looks like I have an oil leak just inboard of the #3 exhaust port. Where's that coming from?

While you're in there might as well check valve clearances too

                        • Over the last few days

Installed a Spitfire windscreen. It makes a big difference reducing fatigue at highway speeds. Not the purchase for a long trip but the day trip rides are more enjoyable.

                          More importantly !!!
DiverRay offered to look my bike over so I rode "over the hill" and learned from a master. He showed me the technique on syncing and tuning the carbs. He also pointed out and advised on 'eleven' other things on my bike.

Ray - A gentleman, scholar, expert mechanic and now a celebrity!
Thank you for all your help and advice - not to mention deferring your own tasks on that gorgeous Saturday.

I must say the bike road VERY WELL on the trip home.

                          • Wow! Honestly surprised you liked the Spitfire on a Standard. I bought it, and took it off literally five minutes later. All the air was hitting my head, no-matter the adjustment. If my seat height was lower, it woulda worked great!

                            • Compromise

                              Ian,

I mounted it with the base at the bottom of the gauges - not the top of the headlight bucket, so it is a couple inches higher.
The wind hits me about forehead level (I am about 5'9").
Stuff like this is an unknown until you can actually try it.
                              Experimenting can be expensive.
I will buy a larger unit when I am ready for a multi-day trip.
The standard is harder to fit (available options) than a special.
This one is handlebar mounted and easy to remove should I desire more "wind in my face".
A bigger screen would have more side protection too.
In all, more area to hide behind in the nasty weather.

This helps on the short runs and fits today's budget
                              ~$70 vs $200
(and my local accessory shop got it in a day)

                              • Pulled the floats from 14 carb's. Trying to make up a few full sets. Never broke a single float pin! Some of these carbs are so dirty that the first time around I deemed them non-salvageable. The rust pile on my workbench is enormous. I use my old tried and true plumbers pliers with the notch cut in and it works wonderfully.
