  • Clutch Springs

Just finished replacing my clutch springs and friction plates. The plates measure 2.85-2.87 so figured it was as good a time to replace them as any. New Barnett springs put it. After a test ride, I found that I have always had a slipping clutch. A lot more fun without waiting for the power to slip to the wheel. Now, if we could just improve the weather a bit so I can take a long rider to see how it does after an hour ride.

    • Sniffing around... smelled fuel

Found and patched small fuel leak on the bottom of tank on my 80 XS11.

Wet paint bubble that flaked off easily was the tell tale sign. JB weld epoxy putty dough sealed hole and stuck to bottom of tank. A celophane cigar wrapper kept putty from sticking to my finger and pulling off tank.

No fire. Leak patched. Lucky again.

      • JB Weld 2 part is not fuel resistant.
Or did you find some other JB Weld product ?
If it starts to leak again super glue.
Dump a tube into the tank near the hole, prop the tank up so the glue settles in that spot let sit a few days.
You will most likely see a little bubble of it on the outside of the tank, when this is hard it's done.

        • Fixed my PU Coil wires that left me stranded a few weeks ago, and added heated grips! I always use my Vetter Hippo Hands in the winter, and I wear my summer gloves in them, but my hands still get a bit chilly on my 30-min, 80+mph commute at <32ºF. I got myself some Hot Grips for Christmas, and even on the low setting, they are plenty warm to make for a comfortable ride! The high setting is almost too hot to hold onto!

Yes, another JB weld product. I believe it is called waterweld, sets even under water, fuel resistant. It is a putty the consistency of play dough. sort of like a jelly roll, one part is around the outside. Cut off a piece, kneed it together. It gets warm and sets up. It did help to hold it to the bottom of tank with some plastic, a leaf or something. That keeps it from sticking to finger and pulling off. I am told it can even patch a cracked engine case.
I have seen an epoxy patch kit approved for repairing aviation tanks with fuel in them. Nice and quick. Thanks for info.

            Still riding.

            • Water weld, yep good product for temporary repairs.

i used it on my boiler, had a new unit ordered but the old one cracked a plate on a friday.

heated the system up to full temp and then drained the boiler and let cool.
i had to let it cool, it melted the first try on the hot cast iron heat exchanger.

let it cool and reapplied, let it sit for 2-3 hours, then fired the boiler back up.

it stunk (hot epoxy smell) for a few hours but it held the weekend!!

monday we installed the new boiler. (this was the end of last winter)

Now, Back to the main subject!!

found a parts maxim for $200 (low miles) (front end hit)
and just installed the motor in war pig and am installing the maxim exhaust
pipes as well. causing all kinds of issues with the ammo boxes.....

so back to the welder, time to make a new set of brackets.
and other mods.... (insert evil laugh here) look close and see what evil lurks

(if you would say, i grew up)

if i ever got ahold of a touring seca fairing i thought it would be fun to mount
                    twin paintball guns into it.

thankfully, those fairings are not cheap, and i am cheap. so i'll never have one.

                    urban assault vehicle?

                    • My new AGM battery came in the mail yesterday. I took it to work just to put it on the tester and I'm impressed. It tested out a 525 CCA. All the wet cells I ever had maxed out at about 350. And, it was less $ than the wet ordering online.

I haven't installed it yet but we'll see.
