New Suspension
After listening to Marty and Jeff talk about their suspension upgrades from Traxxion Dynamics (Woodstock, GA), I looked in to it by contacting them several weeks ago. Very professional and excellent customer service is what I experienced while asking them at least a hundred questions.
As a result, I ended up removing the forks off of my 1979SF and took them to their shop to have them upgraded. They provide different valving and use another spring as well as different fork oil. All worn replaceable parts are replaced - bushings, seals.
My rear shocks were completely useless from all of the years of wear and tear. I looked at many options from several manufacturers. I ended up buying 2 coil- over Bitubo shocks from Traxxion Dynamics. The rebound is adjustable with five selections. TD checks the spring rate of the Yamaha originals and matches (sets) the rate on the new shocks.
A friend of mine, Chuck, rode the bike first as he was the last one who rode it at XSSE 2014. He was very impressed in the noticeable difference after the upgrade. This ride was flat tracking so twisties have yet to be tested.
I rode it yesterday and today for about a hundred miles (mostly flat tracking). The ride is smoother. The steering is easier. I do believe that this 1979SF is "TRANSFORMED". Need to get back up to the NC mountains sooner than later for a road test.
