As I am temporarily holed up inside by the fireplace, (there is a cold rain with thunderstorms and lightning here in GA), I think of, warm days & riding in beautiful far away places.
National Geographic TRAVELER magazine March 2007 features wine country. New York's finger lakes region is covered on p.56-57. "scenic back roads...first rate..." The map locator shows it pretty close to Mexico NY
I am also enjoying looking through "120 spectacular road trips, the most scenic drives in America " I make notes re the XS rallies which covered some of the same roads.
These rallies are just the BEST. When I read about top destinations in national publications, XSives have usually been there. Rallies provide a guided tour AND comeradierie, tech tips etc.
T shirt design - nice. I like the bold graphics and Genuine XS1100 (not generic mc art). Date and place helps me remember road trips I have been on.
Theme ? US and Canada invade Mexico NY. To clarify; Surely that does include bikes from Georgia and other parts of Dixie...Right?

Someday I will be invading Dixie, Brent, wanna take in a Nascar race at least once during my "Kick at the can", maybe in a cage, perhaps on wheels but I will get there!
And your darn right the rallie includes Southern XSives, no matter what they roll in on!!.....cant wait till May!

Hey Bruce,
I can recommend the Atlanta race. Not the biggest track but the fastest. Go Like hell...turn left. Iam going to the 18 March race.

Step up to a nano and you get a screen, 24hours of playback and storage of 2, 4 , or 8 gigs. Prices start at $149 for the 2 gig. I recommend shopping at the Apple site as you get free shipping and engraving.
I can't believe she's not interested in the 8-track though....

Done.

Daughter Leeanne is getting ready for long ride. I hope to get her to go on a few practice rides & get in shape before XS east.
Thanks for advice. She likes it in pink, with her name engeraved on it. She was NOT interested in waiting to see if genuine billett aluminum HD unit would be offered. She did not think that was funny. especially the part about waiting or it leaking into her pocket.
Getting ready. New air filter, new fork oil. Maybe a good test ride soon.

Fortunately daughter is a pretty good sport.
XS content. She has been an occasional passenger since her legs were long enough to reach the turnsignals on the XS1100SG, 80 special. I relocated the turn signals and put foot pegs in the same spot.
I do not worry too much about a little drip, but I would be very concerned if it mysteriously stopped. (it might be empty).
How about a genuine motorola 100th anniversary Harley Davidson cell phone, for a man who lives way up in the mountains where there is NO reception or coverage? Seen it.
Real fun - Gary, is it about time for you to start baiting us with clues as to routes, rides etc? I have been looking in my "most Scenic Drives in America" book and see that Seaway Trail goes through Port Ontario NY. Wife asks if this is near the finger lakes region.
Previous side trips, such as boat ride in 1000 islands, tour of Bolt Castle, Cavern tour ect. have been fun diversions. AND the Xsives, such good sports. I may never forget TC doing the limbo. OOHH, that was so unfair!
How much longer?
Brent,
Still at times riding around in circles, trying to light my wet cigar, and LIKING it.

Brent,
Well let me see.....routes? Ummm...we going somewhere? I figured most guys would be to tired to do any riding. I planned on go-kart racing and mini golf, just across the street.
The Sea-way trail is a good ride, the good part would take us north to the 1000 Islands area. I have a couple rides I like in this direction.
I have a ride to Barnaveld, NY (Van Burgers) that is an all-time favorite.
I have a Finger Lakes route that is an amazing ride but will take all day to complete. Includes stops for scenic vistas, Naples NY for lunch and Hammmondsport for the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum. (Or a winery of your choice).
I have an around the county ride that visits nearly every body of water and all 15mph corners in Oswego county.
I have a ride to '13 corners' and chitanango falls.
We can travel Lake George and back (awesome ride).
Or we can do any one of three 400 mile loops through the Adirondak Park (hearty souls only - 400 is a lot for a group).
That is just the start, I live here. These rides are ones I do several times a year. No one will go home wishing the rides were better. (maybe faster or twistier but not better)
I am taking the 4 days prior to the rally off, so if anybody shows up early we can do some of these rides.
Well enough hints for now...

Gary,
I love it when you talk twisties. I have hamjam 1/2 convinced to circumnavigate Lake Ontario by retuning home via the south shore which would include Hammondsport for the Curtiss museum which is well worth a visit.

I want a shot at the finger lakes, so I can show that rebel, who has regaled us all winter long with horror stories of riding and T-shirt weather, what the "Finger" part means.
No bad roads in NY. I am bringing the armored one so I will be prepared for any little edge of the road eventuality, however slow I am travelling...
