They’re certainly inexpensive enough to give it a go. I put a set of Vesrah in an XS650 and the pull wasn’t noticeably more.

Barnett is ALL I use for a reason. I have a complete clutch set for my winter project, and may put in a set on the '79 to keep the clutch working correctly.

Make sure your clutch cable is in primo condition when using those Barnett HD springs. Just a heads up, motion pro cables are not what they used to be, they are cheap Chinese crap now.

Cables made in Taiwan or Japan seem to be better, I had 2 motion pro cables fail at the engine side, the ferrule broke off. No problem with the Taiwan, don't know about OEM.

I put Barnett kits in all 3 of mine year before last. Quite an improvement I must say. Now I have to keep my fingers crossed concerning my clutch cables. I put new cables on all three when I did the restorations on them. Sadly I believe they were motion pro. Like Marty I would love to know the source. Did a bit of research and AI says that the Motion Pro 05-0058 clutch cable is made in China. I am assuming that because Taiwan is literally a part of China that may be why Google AI assumes just China. I also found this listing on Ebay Yamaha XS1100 1978-1982 Black Vinyl MOTION PRO - 05-0058 - Clutch Cable | eBay the label clearly says Taiwan. Of course Motion Pro itself is a California based company which prides itself on USA made products. I am at this point hoping my cables are fine.

The ebay vendor I purchased from 4 years ago no longer has them, I will try to find another source when I get a chance. I remember the way I found them was to look at many listings and look for the country of origin.

Also, it’s time for me to address my worn clutch. I may just pull the assembly out of a parts bike.

In the last few years, I replaced a few clutch cables with Motion Pro. I don't know if they changed recently, but what have looks pretty stout. This is all I could find with an internet search:
                        Motion Pro Workmanship
Motion Pro tools, cables, controls and accessories are designed with high quality materials. Our products are built to withstand years of use. We stand behind our products 100% for quality and workmanship.
Google's AI gave me info on the wrong company. They aren't what they used to be either.

There are many high quality products coming from Taiwan, Japan, and China. As per usual, you get what you pay for.
