  • OK, The Kerker has been replaced with an RC Engineering pipe that looks far more suitable on the bike. I had to make and grind to size some collars for the keepers to catch and as can be seen, this pipe makes the bike a no passengers ride. The pipe interferes with the right side foot peg.
    Pics as usual.

Yeah, It really fits nice and looks great eh. It also give easy access to the oil filter and oil drain bolt. I could even run with the main stand if I want to but it will not be necessary on this around town daily use red light racer :-)
It came off an vintage racing XS11 so with some baffle packing and tuning the engine should sound sweet and run well.

        • Micky mouse time

So, in order to get this bike safetied, plated and insured for use next week I had to throw a few "Mickey Mouse" items at her. I have made a engine output sprocket cover and a chain guard as can be seen in the photos. They will have to do until the snow flies. If nothing else they can be used as templates for heavier better looking replacements. The chain guard will be mounted on alloy supports tomorrow morning before the lad drops by to do the safty.

          • If all goes well today and the weather does not change I will be applying 2 coats of gloss black nason fullthane 2K urethane to my bikes body parts. I have spent the last few days applying 3 coats of hand sanded primer to these parts and they are ready to go. The last reducer / dust removal will be done just a few minutes before th paint is applied. I will have to apply the paint outdoors due to the high volatility of the paint that is being applied. This paint will not require any clear coat to make it resistant to fuel and the finish, if I can get it applied properly, will have the look of several coats of Lacquer. If all goes well I should end up with a factory quality finish. I'll post some more photos when the paint is on it.

            • Good luck with the pain. Definitely would not be painting here today, way to humid here!

              • Yes I am watching humidity levels here as well. I may however, have no other option other then to apply the paint and account for the humidity in the dry time between the first and second coat. This paint as I understand it will dry in higher then "perfect" humidity levels but added care will be required. In any case 20 minutes is the max time frame involved between coats because it is a 2 part mixed and reduced paint. In this city I would be waiting for a long long time if I wanted "perfect" conditions outdoors. Humidity is currently 73% with pressure rising so humidity may fall off somewhat as the day progresses.
Yes that is an oil pressure gauge.

                • Well, thanks to being a resident of Ottawa, The swamp at the end of the Ottawa river, No painting could be done. The RH fell to 56% just before the Grey clouds rolled in. It feels too much like rain now to risk the painting job.
On another note i have found a nice little faring to stick on the front of this bike and you may want to check them out at this e-bay link. Price is pretty good and I have used this faring in the past. It worked well.

But they take an insert in the front that is much nicer then that opening that is seen in the photo. It's an adapter for round or square lights. He said he has only 2 round adapters left last time I checked them.

                      • Here's what the adapter looks like. It fits right into the opening in the front and makes the faring look much nicer then is seen in the photo without the adapter in place. There's a round one shown in the instructions in the background of the photo. As per the listing the adapters are included along with mounting hardware.

                        • I painted the body parts after work today and got a reasonable job. I will have some rubbing to do but all in all I am happy with the outcome at this point. Pin striping will be high shine silver to match the engine and other raw brushed alloy parts. I should be able to handle these parts tomorrow afternoon for a closer look at what sort of paint job it "really" is. Hopefully the amount of post painting work that is required will be minimal. Some pics as usual.
