begging new mod, need input

    I removed alot of connections from the Blue-Streak and hot soldered them. I still have a gremlin in the headlight at times. I just hit the high beams and roll on. I want the absolute best wiring/charging for this bike possible.....chop

    • The only problem with the solder is it will crack after a while. If you look at airplane connections, they are ALL crimped. a GOOD crimp tool, and the proper connectors will last longer than a solder joint. The Anchor connectors can be had with the heat shrink tubing as part of it.

      • Ray, that's exactly what I did on my complete re-wire of my XS650 project. Marine tinned wire marine connectors, and even a very nice new marine fuse box. Strange but about 2003 I also used the SV650 taillight moulded into the rear of a TT500 seat with carbon fibre.

            hey, what's the diameter in mm on the 14T sprocket you have? and thickness also....Also if anyone wants a v-star tank....pm I have changed my mind on tanks.....chop

            • Chop, 530 pitch sprockets are exactly 9mm thick, 13 tooth are 72mm diameter and 14 tooth are an extra 2 or 3mm wider than that - from memory (can't get at my 14T on the bike to re-measure the diameter exactly)

              • Busa forks

                I looked at the old thread about steering head bearings. I saw 50Gary's reply about xs11 steering bearings. Looks like I will need a 30x47x15 tapered bearing for my Busa tree. Also would it be feasable to turn the tree around like this guy?

                • That would be quite unstable. The bike would have virtually no trail. The offset of the triple clamps would be negitive. The Hayabusa triples will have much less offset than the XS11 to start with. This Hayabusa triple will shorten the wheelbase by about 1/2" (estimate, probably close to my R1 triples) and quicken the steering a bit. The new forks will be more vertical (and quicken the steering a bit) because they are shorter in length making the front steering angle more steep. This will make the Hayabusa spring rate act stiffer than if the XS11 rake were dialed in by lowering the rear in relation to the "new front".

                    Yeah, maybe he took a quick pic without realising he had the fork trees backwards. Any how I will put mine forwards and My triumph S/A is 2" longer than stock xs11. I think this will be the ticket and move the weight forward a bit....wat ya think?

                    • The things that I said about the offset and steering angle will still apply, so it's a step in the right direction for improved handling IMhO. The standard (1978e) weight distribution of the XS is biased towards the rear. 54.8% rear and 45.2% front.

                        This will not work with your stock fuel tank....
                        When you turn the forks left or right the legs will hit the tank instantly, leaving you with no clearance at all. This problem already occurs soon enough when you mount the tree in the correct direction.....

                          I will be mounting mine the correct way of course. I am not worried about the stock tank. The Victory Vegas tank will be used and moved back 1.5 to 2 inches anyway....Right now am hunting down a tapered bearing.....
