  • muffler choice

I will put a 4-1 Mac or kerker header(they look the shortest) my question is can I put a newer style micron muffler directly to the end of the header? I like the new one for the R6, but don't know if it would flow correctly on the 1100cc motor. I am no exhaust specialist, just know what look I want..... open to ideas...chop

Flow should not be a problem, but noise. The real noise dampening on a R6 is done by the collector box under the engine.

I don't mind loud, cars can hear you.....so would any muffler from any newer 600cc bike work, flow properly? i have been looking at a couple on the bay. The 06 cbr600 muffler is nice....

        • how about this one

Is the lower square box the part you're talking about or is that a cat converter?

That's the box. Do not know if there is a cat on board. 600 exhausts flow 100plus horsepower, the latest even 120. So it should be fine.

So just match horsepower of the donor bike? I have many options then, XSelnt....

                well easy:

                1100cc x 8500 rpm = gasflow x
600cc x 16000 rpm must be gasflow x too (roughly)

you cannot compare 4 into 2's with 4 into 1's as the gasflow in a 4 into 1 muffler has double the speed as in one muffler of a 4-2,
but I guess you thought about that already

                • swingarm is done

Custom swingarm pivot bolt attached to stock frame pivot points and pivot bolts.Smooth as Butter. The monoshock is a good fit, but I'm eating my words, I will have to relocate the battery, will be under rear fender. Triumph swingarm mounted with 25mm dia. spacers,1 from the Triumph, 1 from the xs1100 middle drive race bearing, go figure. Will post more pics, when monoshock is done hopefully tomorrow. Decided to go with a solid aluminum engine mount near the sprocket and keep the others rubber(best of both worlds).

Hey pggg, do you have a sealed bearing on the inner middle shaft bearing on your setup? Obviously to keep the engine oil in. If so then I want two of them.....

                      • Chop one of the bearings is a 25mm X 63mm, can't recall the other, but you'll suss it when you strip the drive unit

                        • inner bearing

inner bearing I.D. is 30mm and the problem is that the outter drive splines are 29.5mm. maybe some are mfd a little different. I want to hard weld and regrind the spline surface to accept the same size bearing as the inner( and find 2 sealed ones of course)

                          • Both bearings are common available size, I get 29.8mm across the splines, sprocket spline pattern is 26mm x 30mm.

I have found a source for two of these sealed. I just don't know why yamaha cut those splines at 29.6mm (mine). I may be able to just wrap them with some thin mic'd sheet (.4mm) and call it a day....merry christmas
