  • great help

Thanks pggg, maybe I didn't word it properly. I need to know if you know for sure if your rim's centerline is directly in the middle of the pivot points on your swingarm. I am assuming you didn't alter your pivot points on your frame. I just don't have a stock xs11 bare rim right now to do a mock-up. Thanks....Chop

      • Chop, I can't tell for sure if the wheel centreline on the XS is exactly midpoint between the pivot points, can't tell by looking, you'll need to level, stringline and plumbob Blue Streak to be dead certain, my modded swingarm is kinked outwards and the wheel centred to the front wheel with axle spacers, also there's about 4 or 5mm of sideways adjustment either side on the stock swingarm, just went out and checked inside sprocket to OUTER RIM with a string, yep you're right it's 40mm not 18mm.

        • No strings attached

Thank You Sir! You had me worried there for a minute. Now the numbers are ON, and I don't have to stringline nothing. But you did force me to investigate some more xs11 guru trivia. An 18 inch carpenter's square is handy for finding the xs11's rear wheel centerline in relation to the swingarm.

          • xs11 weight

what is the stock weight of the xs11? I don't know if I want to get the triumph rear monoshock that goes with this swingarm because the triumph st is 463lbs . I like the fjr1300 monoshock (can handle more weight) and I think it is shorter(can avoid battery location). ?????? decisions....

              • late thank you

Just got back into town. Will be getting my brand new '06 model R1 monoshock here before the weekend( went with it because I can't believe how cheap these sell for on the bay, plus the hydraulic rebound adjustment THINGY up top is mounted sideways to clear the Triumph S/A. My yamaha mech friend said a bigger spring can be put on these for the weight difference also. One question before I start welding. Does anyone know what kind/type metal the tubing is on the xs11 frame?....thanks and happy holidays.....

                • You can buy OEM rear shocks cheaply because they are just about the second thing most guys change on new sport bikes. Especially if they do track days or race. The first is usually the exhaust pipe. I bought an R1 rear shock for $30.00 it was not a 2006 but it is perfect condition. They can be reworked by a suspension specialist for a alot less than a Penske $775.00 or an Ohlins up to $1100.00 Springs are a common swap and are standard sizes with different rates. First choice would be Hyperco second would be Eibach, I got lucky on ebay and bought a Hyperco for $5.00 and an Eibach for just a bit more. Normally they're about $90.00 I just looked at a 2005/6 R1 shock ebay and it doesn't come with ride height adjustment. The bottom and top are eyes, is that compatable with the Triumph shock linkage? The XS11 frame is mild steel to my knowledge.

Just need spacers for the S/A connection. Will weld upper shock mount into battery box if I have to...the R1 weigh only 380 lbs. I don't care about ride height on this one. I may not even put a "Fender" on this project....

                    • R1 choice

the eye bolts are a shoe in to the triangular pivot but the real excitement is that I am one lucky guy because I bought the swingarm knowing I would have to do some serious mod to get it in the frame and line up. But the thing geometrically is almost a carbon copy of the stock xs11 swingarm. I give much thanks to PGGG for all of his measurements and replies that confirmed this is a gem....

                      • Chop,
You WILL have to weld a mount from the FRAME, NOT the battery box. The XS11 BBox is not really secure without the battery. The force on the mount point from the shock would bend everything the first time you sat on the bike.
I would use mild steel to build a mount that connects the 4 down tubes just below the battery box.
Just my little bit to try and help.....

The cheapest steel they could find in those days and compared to modern steel very brittle (lots of carbon when I'm not mistaken).
When I started welding, the holes were getting bigger and bigger

Nice drawing anyway, but I would get rid of that front wheel to keep things in harmony.
