Nice! The turn signals actually look pretty good on the oil cooler and the spoke rims are classic.

        • Oh such purty bikes! I want to give my bike a facelift. Any tips on how to deal with the aluminium grung on the engine? I've been told by pro's that it is beyond buffing, but painting traps heat. What to do?

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"

You're going to have to get after it with sandpaper. You get progressively finer until you're buffing. It's a lot of work!

There must be a thread about it here someplace.

            • hey Ed...

I use micromesh... You can usually find it on E-bay for less than the stores... It's an aircraft windshield grade polishing cloth that comes in extremely fine grades... the 6000 grit will bring a HIGH shine to your engine...
Like Marty said... it takes a lot of work and time... but WELL worth the effort...

I believe those are "Mac" turn outs you have on your XS and they look good on that bike. Compared to stock pipes, how would you rate their noise level? I have a Super/Trapp 4-1 header on mine now but I plan on taking the Super/Trapp off once I'm finished playing with the horsepower thing and I have a new set of Mac's like yours with Jet Hotted (sterling silver color) head pipes that I think would look good on mine. The head pipes on the Mac system look better than the Jardine Spaghetti system I think as the spaghetti pipes have a clutterd look in front of the bike. The head pipes on the Mac's are bad about turning blue and that's why I had mine Jet Hotted. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though when it comes to choosing pipes and so forth. Actually I have a set of spaghetti's in addition to my pristine originals as I have tried them all at one time or another. Be careful on your Harley and don't get run over by some nut case on a 600 crotch rocket or worse yet, a pair of silver haired ladies in a Buick Lesabre. When I see a Buick Lesabre, Mercury Marquis or Ford Crown Vic, I head for the curb and or ditch because AARP members will run you down.

                            • Hey Dan, could you take a couple good pics of those Jet Hotted pipes for me? I have always been curious as to how the silver would look.

                              • Dan

I have a set of those Mac turn outs on my Bagger, and to be honest, I think they suck! I don't like the sound of them, and I personally don't like the looks. I was forced to ride the bagger for a week, and I disliked those pipes more every time I rode it. Wildkat has a set of Mac taper tip pipes on her bike, and I don't care for them either. Neither set will tuck up snugly against the muffler/footpeg bracket like the stock pipes do. My daily ride has the spaghetti pipes on it. Granted, the spaghetti pipes don't fit up against the bracket as well either, but I much prefer the sound and appearance of the Jardines over the Macs. The sound issue may just be the lack of a cross over pipe on the Macs.
Need some one to take those Jardines off your hands?
