Ok, did a recon mission to the Yogi Beat (former KOA) in Larkspur, Co. Literally just off of I-25 south of Castle Rock at the Tomah road exit. Plenty of space left for tent sites, cabins, etc. Dirt roads throughout the entire site, pretty much built on a hill, but sites are level. There is a space with 7 tent sites around a catch and release mini-pond that we could reserve and they would give us two weeks to fill spots, then the rest would go back for open rental to anyone. $42 per night, per space, one tent per space. There are other tent spaces too, just in a different area of the campground.

Apparently their website is malfunctioning, and they haven't gotten the reservations they normally do, thus the space available at this time. I checked on weekends of July 18,19,20 and 25,26,27. Hotels up in castle rock are the best bet (7 miles) for those who want one.

I am going to check out the Canon City area stuff tomorrow on my way through there for the weekend, much more in the heart of great riding territory for day rides to many cool places, but wanted to share what I found.

        Need input!!!!

        Howdy,
I don't know what it entails to host a rally beyond finding suitable camping/lodging and good roads..??????????????
I was going to nail down the date for the weekend of the 18,19,20th.(July)
also was going to go back to my original idea of a Denver based rally
It was suggested to keep the base elevation below 6500 feet to help avoid altitude sickness.and no dirt roads which doesn't leave much around here beyond what I have already suggested ..after all Denver is at 5280 feet to start with.
I am not as familiar with the springs area as I am here.
but need to determine the Base camp within the next few days
        NEED YOUR INPUT YA'"LL

On a serious note but with humor intended, I WIIL (underlined) be enjoying a excursion /adventure this summer, with you or without you,...think it would be more fun with a group.

Bonz thanks for your ideas ,I don't care who takes the lead here I don't feel either one of us has the need to be the big cheese.
SO, let's hear from the potential participants.

Hey rdmcguy and others, check this out. www.echocanyoncampground.com

Inexpensive pricing and right at the Royal Gorge off Hwy 50 (8 miles west of canon city). Tent sites, rustic cabins, plenty of availability. The guy I talked to on the phone said 50% with reservation, balance two weeks before arrival. Lots of space available. The big fire at the Royal Gorge last year has kept tourism down a bit, so should be great for our purposes!

Keep mind, the $25 per night for tent sites is for up to 4 people, any which way you want to pack the tents in there. Or share tents... Cabins are $55 per night, for those softer of backside.

Need the collective to chime in. I really like the locale for riding, so many sights to see and good roads right out the tent/cabin door. I am intimately familiar with the roads around that whole part of the state and the riding is awesome, which is a big reason for my excitement of this location. Two bars/grills right there at the campground as well.

          www.echocanyoncampground.com

July 18,19,20 or July 25,26,27 (can stay longer if folks want to head out on a Monday).

Howard, looks great to me, everything we need, including being able to have a fire .......camping without a fire isn't camping to me.
Hopefully others will chime in SOON I could transport coolers etc, with my truck and roll my bike out of it for the riding.
            ARE WE THERE YET????

I am there, if you are there! Agreement among two cat herders must mean its a go for Echo Canyon campground.

Just decide which weekend of the two and we are there.

                            • RD Guy,

Tried to call: I'm looking at the reservation page. How many nights at the campground? Two nights, Friday and Saturday, then head out Sunday or three nights and head out on Monday?

Soccer Mike and CTD bro-in-law ,

I talked to Roo and he's wanting to do Colorado again; he might do the Left Coast-Washington-Idaho-Utah-Colorado loop to the Colorado rally but we'll have to see what happens down the road a piece.

He went on a ride down South and he had some kind of idea for a Sunday Eggo rally at a casino/campground out off of the 8 somewhere near El The Middle.

                              .
