  • Bob you need to figure out how to tap into the fuel pump lines...using the fuel pump to fill a gas can cant be that hard... but i dont know how things are setup on the Connie...on my ST it was possible to do this as the fuel pump was right on the top after you take the seat off...no siphoning...

    • Yes, mine are at the end of the tank, under the seat. Sounds similar.
Might be an ordeal on the side of the road though, but might work if we get desperate!

Hopefully, it won't come to that.

        • No worry, I picked up a small 1 gallon gas can that fits in a saddle bag.

Well, COG has some guys that tour long distances, but they usually don't ride those same distances with guys who ride Specials....
So not sure there's ever been a need for them to do something like that...?
            Lol

We'll be fine since Greg's bringing along an extra gallon.

Since this will be my first time EVER riding through Tn. and NC, I'm at a slight disadvantage on the distances between gas stations.
            But I know Greg knows.

Now...when you go the other direction (W), ride away from I-40, and travel through the deserts of Arizona, venture through Utah and Nevada...that's a whole different story! Some of the places I've been out there can be as much as 200+ miles between gas stations. It's a challenge even for a Special with a Venturer tank!

My Connie has long legs. Depending on headwind, terrain, and my right wrist...it averages between 250-300 miles per tank. It's not a problem going places like that with it.

...unless, of course, I happen to be riding across the desert with Cody and Miles... At the pace we went last time, I think my mpg plummeted to around 38!
Far from the 50 that it usually gets. I found out Connie gets really thirsty travelling through the desert going triple digits! Lol!

Ben, when I see you at the IH, remind me to tell you that story.
            You'll laugh your rear off!
Maybe Bohn will help me tell it, too! He was there....

No, I was referring to the year before when we went to Zion, and Miles was riding Bohn's GS. Cody was on his RT, and my Connie had about 750 miles on it at that time. Miles didn't realize the differences between the GS and the RT, and he thought the range and fuel tanks were the same.

Pretty funny how he found out they were different.
                Lol

But Tod now knows about the importance of fuel range if headed out there, too!

                  • Looking out the Sunset Beach Inn Resort window in Cape Charles at a little drizzle, better than the downpour and wind of a couple of hours ago. There is a nice beach but no Sunset.

Will leave Thursday morning to cross the Lucius J. Kellam Jr Bridge-Tunnel to Norfolk. Then the 58 to 85 to 40. Should make somewhere near Greensboro Thursday afternoon.

Been packing up stuff getting ready to head out in the AM. As usual I've loaded up too much stuff but as USPS says, if it fits it ships.

Hi Bohn, Glad you could make it again this year. Spoke with Bruce Roggy the other day. He is unable to make it to the rally this time. I know he was really wanting to come. Charlie Haas and his wife Barbara are coming. Not sure if you know them. Charlie was one of Bob's buddies.

You will not be the lone Beemer this time. My brother is coming and he will also be on one.

See you there in a couple of days.
