Just get the carbs squared away and get them mounted back up. The bike will run or not run just from there before you have to talk about replacement parts. That is where I would be with it. Best place to start and then once you and your friend hear it run then he can decide what else he wants to spend money on. What kind of shape is the bike in other than the carb problems?

Parts are ordered. I'll get it running and see where it's at. Looks like he bought it with all 4 needle/seat leaking like a sieve so it's never run good enough to determine other problems. Excessively washed down cylinders is what I'm worried about at this point.

If you are worried about the cylinders, drain the oil and replace the oil filter, re-fill with 20w50 Castrol or another good brand of NON synthetic motor oil. Then pour about 3 ounces of Automatic transmission fluid into each spark plug hole. Rotate the engine by hand twice and let set for a day or two with spark plugs just threaded in a little bit.
Before trying to fire for the first time, pull the spark plugs and rotate the engine with the starter. Don't forget to put a rag over each plug hole, or ATF will be all over the place. Then put the plugs in and see what happens. Prepare for some smoke at first from the ATF.

I think it's too late for that. I'll just change the oil and crank it to get oil flung up on the walls before I fire it. There was more gas in the crankcase than oil. And #2 plug hole only has a few threads left so I don't want to remove it again.

Not touching anything else until I hear and see it run. Crank seal leaking bigtime also.

OK. There are plugs that go straight down to the bore from the bowl surface? #1 Is partially drilled and #2,3 & 4 are drilled all the way through. Why would someone drill them out? Is it possible they were mistaken for the mixture screw caps? I guess the only issue is turbulence at the holes since the top is sealed with the gasket.

Don't take this the wrong way but he must be a good friend. I have never messed with the Dyno Jet kits but I do know that they come with a drill bit. The only person that can answer "Why?" would be the person that did the drilling. Curious thing is why just 3 of them and not all 4? Were you planning on getting the jb weld that Marty recommended to you? Might be good for sealing those holes back up. The closer you get back to original to begin with the better. It's no wonder why others gave up on those carbs. They may still be salvageable though.

The drill bit with the Dynojet kit is to drill the diaphragm slide hole in the bottom of the piston. It's 4mm.

Yep. I just don't know if jb weld is worth the effort. And it's the putty version which is difficult to work with. Wish I had new plugs.

Kit comes with 2 bits. 2.5mm for the slide hole and 4mm for the screw plug. That's the size of the holes. He definitely thought they were the mixture screw plugs.

                          Ummm.... ( •_•)

The float needles and needle seats WERE the main problem in my situation. (;☉_☉)

Sure... the jets in GFix's "Super Happy Funtime Kits" made my bike run like a 750 instead of a 1100 along with some other bothersome issues... (´._.`).。oஇ()

But 2 of the 4 needles/seats didn't regulate the gas flow at all- gas flowed up, over, and out from the main jet needle/slide in the carb throat. (◔ヘ◔)

Couldn't get those 2 to wurky at ALL so's I bought/installed 4 of the K&L kits and installed 2 of'em to get the overflow situation sorted. ヾ(゚д゚)ノ゛

But in the end ALL of the needle/needle seats (Super Happy Funtime AND K&L) didn't set the fuel level in the bowls to the right height when adjusted to the "correct specified height" per the repair manual. (O_o)7

Some (even the K&L...) were still overflowing/above the bowl/gasket/main body after "setting the float level." (ノдヽ)

This was even after I had cleaned/polished the individual floats as seen here at time 8:28-

All the floats (needles/needle seats...) were then adjusted to get the correct fuel level when checked WET. ๑(◕‿◕)๑

NONE of them... K&L or the Super Happy Funtime needles/needle seats were even close to the 25.7 plus/minus 1.0mm spec stated in the manual. (゜Д゜*)

But with the fuel level in the bowl(s) where it should be the bike ran like a 750.... until I yoinked out the GFix jets and installed Mikuni. ヽ(O_O )ノ
