  • Kurt: Yeah, I bought one once before, I just hoped I didn't have to go through effort. Rather lazy, huh?

I did ride the bike around. It runs perfectly, but I have trouble with the wiring in the fairing. The right turn signal works, but the left turn signal doesn't work. The left running light works, but the right running light doesn't work. I spent a couple of hours trying to figure it out, and am embarrassed I have been challenged by light bulbs!

After I get the fairing wiring working, then I just need to bolt on the bags, and I'm done.

      Hi Mike,

She's coming right along. Lots of effort has paid off. Looking very nice. Can't wait to see in person in Stecoah next month.

The light sockets ground through the stem. Have seen issues there before.

      • I've been gone for a week, so tonight I could resume working on the fairing wiring.

I decided wiring must be wrong behind the headlight.

So I took off the seat and tank so I could safely remove the fairing.

Sure enough, the wiring in the bag behind the headlight was wrong. The Right turn signal was plugged into the wrong bullet connector. The wire for the running lights was completely disconnected- in fact, the bullet connector was completely cut off of it.

Fortunately I have my new crimpers, and I had bought some bullet terminals, so I could get it fix and back together in one night.

Now the running lights and turn signals work correctly.

        On to the bags!

          • Done!

            Put the bags on:

I have had it out a few times now. Today I rode it about 65 miles. It runs perfectly and everything works perfectly. It's quite smooth and comfortable to ride. The only issue I have is I can hear a ticking noise like a "noisier than usual" valve. I checked the exhaust and it's tight. Might be nothing to worry about?

I want to get at least 500 miles on it before the Vintage Yamaha Rally to shake it down.

Meanwhile I'll clean up the fairing lowers and the Vetter trunk, assuming I will probably use those at the rally.

              • Hi Mike,
Great job. That is a wonderful example of the Venturer.
Tight valve is not good. However tight is quiet so not the source of your noise.

Hi Mike, You have pleased the Yamaha God's with this very nicely done Venturer. Great job. I am impressed.

I have experienced that the lowers are not needed above 50 degrees. They will make you TOO warm above that. And they are a pain to carry on the bike unmounted. September in Stecoah is normally too warm for them. But they do look good on the bike.

                    • Out on the Road

                      Thanks for the compliments guys.

I have been polishing the trunk, and have it installed on the bike for now:

The wife and I don't care for the way the bike looks with the trunk, but it would be so functional for trips.

Now I have put 171 miles on her since getting back on the road.

Mike, the Vetter trunk is fairly rare. Venturers had two options for the passenger back rest. Some of the trunks had their own back rest. With those you removed the Venturer factory one.

Skids: There are front crash bars installed on this one. And you can add foot pegs that allow the use of the lowers.

                          • I have been thinking about highway footpegs.

I hate to choose anything that would mar the beautiful chrome on the crash bars.

I decided to leave it without the pegs for now, but I will need to choose something before I take it on any long trips.

Skids, when I purchased my Venturer new, it came with crash bars from factory. I installed the road pegs on crash bars at that time, and they are still same location. Bike can definitely be ridden usimg road pegs with lowers attached. Actually makes for a comfortable LD ride!
