Found out something I totally suck at.....BODY WORK....How hard can it be to throw some bondo on a couple hand made side panels sand and paint.....Looks like the craters on the moon.......slow down and learn something after 4 tries dummy....Want to blame good old dad for not teaching such skills but at 53 and google search I guess I should own it....

Yeah, I feel your pain! Bondo is the start, and THEN after sanding you use glazing putty to fill in the craters. Oh, and BUY the "fish eye" liquid for the paint if you are shooting paint from a shop, you WILL need it. DAMHIKIJKRay Matteis

That's where your legs go so whatever you do it might not last too long.
The clean look is good.
Can you put some gold or silver foil or paint behind the transparent stickers to get something like the original metallic lettering? Shape the black part of the sticker in a swoop going up toward the top rear of the cover, sort of like the Nike logo.

Well, you're the 2nd
Person I know that has 'rolled' a paint finish on a vehicle and made it snap.
No need for the anti-fisheye, he's not spraying.
I like the logo with the green showing, if it's easily replaced I'd have a few on hand for when needed.79 SF & 80 LG MNS
73 & 74 RD 350's

Graveyard - '81 XS850 Special
All of my bikes are projects, maybe one day I'll have them running.

The way I see it the paint doesn't know if it was sprayed, rolled, brushed, dipped, or poured on....if the orange peel is controlled all will be good1979 F worst one i could find
to convert into a bobber/ streetfighter!

A month long education in paint
Never thought I would be in paint process this long but refused to let it win...I knew nothing about nothing about paint but really really wanted to understand it. Here is my progress...
Rolled 20 coats of green wet sanding every 2 coats to knock down orange peel waited a day between each coat to dry.
This is wet sanded at 2000 grit ready for clear
Taped off and rattle caned the black inlay under gas cap....
Four coats of clear....
Used 1500, 2000,2500, 3000, 5000 grit to knock down clear coat orange peel
and cutting compound on just the lower part of tank to show progress...

That looks really good!
I rolled the paint on the tank and covers for my Special too but I just stayed with gloss white and no clear, your tank looks so purdy I'm rethinking the clear.

I used it over some Duplicolor Dark Toreador Red. It looks really good. But I had to buy a decent mask first...Steve R

Looks fantastic!
You should add 2 Tech Tips under the Miscellaneous heading: 1 for your painting technique, and 1 for how you got the engine so damn clean.
edit: One for how you cooked that lobster wouldn't hurt, either.Last edited by VegasMichael; 07-29-2015, 11:13 AM.79 SF
