You should add 2 Tech Tips under the Miscellaneous heading: 1 for your painting technique, and 1 for how you got the engine so damn clean.

edit: One for how you cooked that lobster wouldn't hurt, either.
The Lobster is easy split tale length wise put some garlic butter heat BBQ grill so when you place lobster meat side down you sear some grill marks in the meat a couple minutes then flip on its shell till the tail curls up and the meat starts to peel away from shell and it turns a bright red. Then re-coat with butter and serve. Only way to eat it. Enjoy

Paint your bike in a month tech tip......not to popular hahahahaha

        • SHE is alive!!!!!!!!! Put a new battery in last night and cranked her for the first time....Vroom she is born again...Just wanted to let her idle and burn some exhaust paint off with no intention to tune till this weekend...

          Results of first start:
Cranked right up with choke on, near 40 seconds 1/2 choke, then 15 seconds no choke.
At idle getting very light backfire out the exhaust every other second.
Almost no throttle response from idle to WOT. Slight bog no increase in RPM's.
Stock internals in the carbs with pods with stock boots and some what open exhaust.
Air/ fuel mixture screw out 2 turns from slight seat (most likely my first problem way lean).

Not trying to diagnose right now because I haven't put any leg work into tuning it yet.......Just happy as hell I have a RUNNER!!!!!!!

Clarification please: Backfire out the carbs would be RICH, backfire out the exhaust would be lean condition?

Hard work starting to pay off.... Oh look my feet are of the ground Oh Dear!

              • I really like what you did. It appears well balanced and nicely finished. I think you should consider getting rid of the instrument console and mirrors. They're too big. The clocks especially need to go. You can get full instrumentation in a very small Acewell clock. Round, black bar end mirrors might fit your look as well. I hope you don't mind the critique.

No not at all you have shown a good eye for such things....I have to admit I am drawn to the clunkyness of both of them and its not like me. It may have to do with keeping some of its 1979 non streamlined looks and pay gratitude from where it was born.

IMO, achieving a balanced look is such a difficult proposition when attempting one of these builds.

But ... you know what? You have managed to pull it off ... it does look balanced ... KUDOS!

I can appreciate all the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into your project ... and ... where you have brought the bike thus far ... well, it looks GOOD!

Nice work ... I LIKE IT

Oh, and FWIW, I'm kinda diggin' the "clunky" gauges and mirrors.

It differentiates your build from all the other bobbers out there that have a single tiny gauge and tiny bar-end mirrors.

                            • Thanks for the kind words everyone.......I'm feeling if I lose the mirrors and square gauges i'm going to lose the bikes identity of being born in the 70's....But will have to admit I would be giving the same advise to the next person when looking at the bike.....I just love the damn things, what can I say

                              • I have to admit my skeptiscism initially but I wholeheartedly agree with Marco...you have achieved what few actually set out to accomplish. I am a purist at heart however I must say I wouldnt mind owning and riding this one...IMO keep the gauges and mirrors...I dont think they detract from the look....my hats off to you
