  • Yeah it stays right about there. If I get real high in the rpms it has flickered to 14.8 but 14.6-7 is where it stays.

I don't know, I gotta think about the boxes. I at least need to make up better mounts for the boxes before I would do any final painting if I decide to go that route.

Yup, gotta change my fiber floats back the factory setting also after finially figuring out was fighting a primary voltage issue. Mines difference other than floats being the later carbs is exactly the same difference from factory settings as yours........built-in rev. limiter at 7200rpm...lol. Now that all is well voltage wise, gonna get them back to the 23.5mm I had them, which being able to check actual levels while running(correct procedure for 81's and IIRC, XJ's) leaves the fuel levels @3mm below the carb body. Of course gotta re-set fuel mixes and re-sync, but the motor is happy again. Re-set those floats to stock setting Natemoen, re-set fuel mixes and re-sync, you'll be golden.

      • I received my Tkat Fork-Brace in the mail today and installed it on my lunch break. I could tell a difference in the sturdiness of the bike from simply sitting on it. The front end definitely feels more solid and tracks the lines I choose much better. I won't go back. Thanks, Tkat!

I rode mine in heavy rain, light rain, over wet roads and in heavy rain, about 100 miles. It was a good test of the a quick fix.

Problem - It had lost spark on 2 cylinders, coil or plug wire short while wet. Fix - I replaced a broken sparkplug boot, put dilectrick grease on white spark plug insulators to seal all boots tight, AND sprayed magic wire drier all over the spark plug wires and coils. (I do not remember the brand of majic stuff, But Bigfoot knows.)

It is good to have a saddlebag like a majic hat. Just reach in and pull out what ever is needed.

            • Got a new back tire for trip back home from XS SE Rally. Cords do not provide good traction

Wheelers Performance in Robbinsville NC was only 10-15 miles from Iron Horse and quick and reasonable on a Michelin.

Rode through what seemed like The Perfect Storm for 500 miles only to land in a nowhere motel east of Memphis with Tod, Harry and Greg and Harry had chili with beans.

I cussed mine for about the same distance. I gotta figure out what the heck is getting wet and causing that cussed misfire.

I thought it was the boots but I taped them up with some of JW's Texas Longhorn duct tape and it didn't make any difference.

                • I stripped more parts from my other 80SG and lubricated open head before wrapping in plastic and storing in back. I needed more driveway and garage room for winter project build.

                      • checked back break

Went for a test drive after installing a rear master cylinder. Back break worked. I bought a used mastercylinder. What a rusty mess it was inside. I combined the best parts from 2 cycinders. I sure had a time trying to bleed the rear brakes. The large drain plug on the master cylinder was loose allowing air to be introduced. Much better after I got it all closed tight. Nice to have brakes at both ends again.

                        • I advanced my timing a few degrees and it gave my 79F back some lost pep, probably due to a stretched 70K mile timing chain. No pinging so far, we'll see.

                            • I changed the oil (no problem) and changed the final drive and middle drive oil. It's an 80sg and I got it less than a year ago with under 7000 miles. I don't think that anyone has ever opened the middle and final drive . . . ever. I had a hard time opening the fill plugs on both, stripped the 6mm allen hole on the middle drive fill plug, buggered it up with channel locks, snapped off an allen socket in the final drive fill plug, but eventually got everything sqared a way.

Also, I got rid of an annoying -- I thought it was an exhaust leak or lean running, so I messed with the mixture for a while, until finally I noticed that the plug in cylinder one was gapped way too narrow. Now she runs very quiet.

Once that was all squared away, I went for about a 200 mile ride up the hudson valley. Including buzzing past West Point and up what we call the Storm King highway. Had a nice lunch at a friendly biker hang out called Rhodes Tavern. All in all, a great day

                              • Put a brace on the front of the Pacifico fairing so the headlight will stop bouncing all over the place when driving down the road.

Also finished the install on the oil temp gauge. All is working well.
