    • Some of those sound like colors I traced. Some don't. You have a few bells and whistles mine lacks. I just have head light, l/r turns, running lights on mine.

        • Second gear fix on Addie

Well while MaximPhil was trying to find the Easter eggs he hid the night before I was starting to get "Addie" ready for a second gear fix. I managed to get it stripped down flipped over and the gears out before dinner. Tomorrow Phil is going to bring over the Dremmel bits to start the repair.

          Ready for the flip

This was a surprise looked like a lot of metal chunks but actually was more of a collection of lint and metal chunks.

                  • Yeah we do the different thing for dates. Had a few beers but the whole thing went smoothly and all the bikes run well. Kind of a PITA with Jardine spaghetti headers but all went well.

                      • Better way

Put those gears on a drill press table, slant the table, put the grinder in the chuck and run the drill press as fast as it will go. It's much easier to keep 'em even and the same angle all around and the gear is much easier to keep from jumping around than the dremmel making a much better job.

I was thinking the same idea but use my milling
machine. It's a new toy for me and I have never used one before.

Any suggestions on what to use? Should I use the dremmel grinding stone or use a cutting tool?

If you're using a mill, best way would be to use an indexing rotary table and a 5/16" carbide mill bit. A mill won't have the speed needed for a stone, and the surface hardening on the gears will dull a HSS bit pretty quickly....BTDT...

To be honest, I've got a mill and it's much faster to freehand these with a die grinder. By the time you do all the setup to accurately do the machining, you can have them all done...

                              • My setup

I have a small drill press from HF and a set of grinding tools for the Dremmel with diamond grit from HF that cost me $14.00. Set the table on a slant and the grinder in the chuck at max fast speed and hold the gear to get really good control on depth and angle for all the sides. Really makes a professional job. The last set I did I had to do it this way 'cause my Dremmel died and it was SSSsssooooooo nuch easier....
