With a fairing on it it's not going to make even that. You'll be lucky to make 120 with a Vetter on there, not sure what you could turn with a Pacifico on, but I'm pretty sure that just about anything other than a micro fairing is going to slow the bike down, now speed it up.

    • Hmm...I put the rear tire back on, the exhaust, the carbs and airbox. Promptly flooded the airbox with fuel, and then took carbs and airbox back off. Fixed float, reassembled, and ran it up and down the road a few times for the first time since last year

The old one is at the top. WTF?
            Hi Greg,
Note that there are only MPH numbers on the dial.
Your old one has big white MPH numbers and small yellow KPH numbers.
Canadian speedos have big white KPH numbers and small yellow MPH numbers (and the odometers read Km)
Green faces were early to mid '70s? Before the XS750/850/1100s were available.
Perhaps the speedo is from an early XS650? I wonder when US model speedos switched to dual measurements?

            • Spring is here

First real ride of the Spring.

Fired right up. Had to break loose the clutch. Test to be sure brakes and electrical are all OK. A few small carb adjustments and we were off. Ran like a champ all day - like butter!

For an old guy, she is really quick.

              Man I love these bikes.

                  • Threw random motorcycle parts through the wall of garage in frustration at trying to get the bike on the center stand without taking the exhaust off. Stupid lack of a grab handle...

Now will attempt to find out from where exactly it is enthusiastically spraying oil from, then attempt to tune the carbs.

                      Hi Joab,
had a friend did that, would work himself into a rage so he'd get the hysterical strength to get his centrestand spring back on.
Next time, try backing the bike's rear wheel up onto a 2 x 8 beforehand, it'll save you from having to patch the garage walls again.
And WTF don't you have a grab handle?
Good luck with finding the oil leak source BTW.

There are alot of things the former POs decided this bike simply didn't need anymore. And I managed to accomplish nothing much today. Couldn't colortune the carbs without removing the fairing, and I couldn't put the ACCT on, I need to let the allen bolts soak because they are seized to the ignition cover.
However, I DID manage to discover my brake light no longer works, It looks like the little button box on the master cylinder has finally failed. So I am sure that will be fun to find a replacement for.

Sigh...yes, I know, I am whining alot, but I was really hoping this would be the year I could actually go out and enjoy the bike for once...

I guess on the plus side, the new GL1000 bars I put on are way more comfortable then the original bars, so thats something...

                            • Carb Cleaning

Cleand a set of carbs fom a G that has sat for over 7 years. Found that they were prity clean inside except fot the right fuel intake. It was clogged with a white powder. Hoping that soaking it will brake up the powder so that I don't have to take apart the rack.

                              • Horn wires and hardware

Identified the proper wire to power the missing horns. Blue must be the new pink! Headed to ACE and spent a bunch on stainless steel metric hardware to get the Windjammer IV mounted!

Now to make a quick T wire for the pair of horns once they are mounted on the fairing bracket and the fairing is mounted.

Meanwhile, got out for a very short neighborhood ride to warm up the new oil and mix up the new grease the middle and final gearboxes...

Great to hear it run after having the carbs off for clean out. Might need a bit of tuning now...Rain in the forecast for this warm week...
