Today I rode to town and bought some oil. Valvoline 20W-50 4-stroke motorcycle oil. I'm not so sure I'm impressed with it yet, but I'll try it a little longer before I decide. I replaced my clutch springs with those EBC springs from BikeBandit. I'm afraid to romp on it to try them out cause my bike is starting to make some valve noise a bit more than I am comfortable with. I need to shim em, buy some new float needles and seats, 2 pilot jets, petcock rebuild kit, resync..etc..

I am also thinking my intake boots are leaking now, not sure if it's just the gaskets or the cracks. I see a few cracks around the lip where the clamp is, not good.

Now that there's a few thousand miles on the bike and things are loosening up it's beginning to feel a bit like a Junk Yard bike. It's still growling though.

Well, today I put the 3 exhaust pipe studs back in and did a TI of the newly sawn off header pipes plus put the sawn off mufflers back on. Now I can make the adapter tubes that need to be welded between them, replacing the leaky rusty bits.
But first, the horns were impeding my view of the stud holes so I had to take them off to see what I was doing.
That 5-minute job took ~2 hours because of the accurséd PO.
The horns were attached with overlong inch-size hardware store bolts that weren't plated so they were all rusty.
Dig out the penetrating oil, find the inch-sized wrenches and struggle those nuts all the way off in a place I can't get my air wrench to.
WTF, it's snowing again, there's lots of time.

Fired up the 80SG with it's new #1 carb body, for the first time. It started and idled fine, but will need to be balanced and set for the road.

I've had the 80G out for about a month, but haven't had a lot of chances to ride.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

79 - Pulled the carbs, re-set the float levels, re-installed the carbs, balanced and adjusted idle mix.

            Yo?

hello the names tony im new to here and in the week or so ive been a member ive gotten a lot of info so i figured it was time to share some of my stuff well the bike has been down for a few months do to the wires in the pick-ups being broke and i couldnt figure it out (thats why im a member now) so i took the time to do some of the other thing ive been meaning to do.... so when i built the bike (about 3.5 years ago) i ditched the speedo and had just the tach and i wired the fuel light to be my oil light instead well as luck would have it the needle broke on the tach got one on e-bay and it broke to (my tach needles do a lot of jumping around he he) so i was in a speed shop one day and there sits a auto meter bike tach (used) so i scoopde it up dor a nice price brought it home and put it on and i love it! but thats not the point now i have no oil light.... so im thinking i need some thing??? so i put the ole noodle in motion and this is what i came up with

just went to my local muffler shop and had him make me a piece of pipe big enough to fit the gage and went home and copied the throttle cable bracket and added a little more to hold the pipe what do ya think???
oh yea and it works great! and also heres the tach

Wow! Ummm... Where's the fuel guage? At least with the odometer in the speedo, you can tell how far you've gone and can guess at your range, but you have no way of knowing your fuel level now...

              Very creative though.

Rode it today, decided to test out my clutch springs. I just put on my full helmet instead of my half helmet so the valve noise wouldn't torture me. It's not real bad and it runs smooth at 70 and over so I know I'm not killing the bike, but I had to find out. I was just planning on taking it easy on the Dogg, but as I was riding I had to pull over to zip up my pocket for fear of loosing my wallet for the second time. Right when I pulled over and zipped it a Vette drove by me probably doing 70 the speed limit, then I HIT IT! 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and GOODBYE SISSY CAR and climbing to 80 I ripped it open wide and no clutch slippage, hit 5th at about 100 I think then backed off. That was the first time I felt the awesome power of the Yard Dogg without the clutch pooping out. I can't tell you how good it felt. I can hardly wait to shim the valves properly and get them carbs synced. I think I'll go up 2 sizes on the main jets when I install my Harley mufflers and compensate for the richness with a custom air box. I would like to do the 750 final drive mod too. I'm never selling this bike!

Earplugs will fix that problem right quick, I use the foam throw away ones from the drugstore with a halfer helmet. Barely ride without them.

                          • Today I am working on sanding the scratches out of the side covers. I don't know what caused the scratches but they aren't too deep. It is almost as if the PO was roughing the covers up to paint them, but decided to only paint the inserts instead. PO did a bad job of masking as well. Hopefully I can get one cover done while at work today. We'll see what the day brings.
