Congratulations! I remember the first time I was shot out of a cannon. Did you crank the throttle?
It really wasn't all that exciting. I've already gone 70 on a highway in the middle of nowhere near here. I don't even think I got to get to 60 b/c I was behind a gravel semi . But, nonetheless, first time going that fast around so many cages.
hey there folks...progress today....went to the man-cave, looked at the 'rebel devil", said still don't have the parts to complete the project, took a drink of the brew-ha-ha, thought to myself "ain't it a wonderful day!", and tried to decide where to install my 2h7-98990-58-37......"very" optional beer transportation device.....

I finally checked my tire pressure after at least a month of owning the bike. The tires always seemed firm, so I figured PO had a good amount of air pressure in them.
Well, turns out I shouldn't have been cursing my forks as much as I have for the wobble I get after I'm warmed up. The cold PSI was 40 front 42 rear
I'm glad my tires didn't explode. So, I dropped both of them down 4 to see how that goes, and for the short ride I did after doing that, all seemed to be ok.
I finally got my replacement idle mix scew from Len @ XJ4ever so I put that in as well as replaced all the washers and o-rings for the idle screws. Put the carbs back on and fired her up for the first time this year. She started up easer than she has previously so I 'm happy about that. Now I just have to colortune and balance properly, after I get a colortune of course.
I also took apart the side covers to sand/polish the aluminum and prep the insert for paint. Apparently my XJ was originally red as per the edges of the side cover inserts. Poorly painted black as well. I guess It is a good thing I intended to paint it mostly red.

-1982 XJ1100J - brought back from the dead by
replacing motor after throwing #4 rod
-1985 XJ750XN - shim job, oil change, ride. not bad for
$500 including new rear tire.
On the 81 I added a ground wire for right side controls, checked compression and pulled the carbs apart ->
I thought I had to tap that #3 emulsion tube a little harder then the rest....now I know why!

Yesterday...
Put the new front tire on the FJ... finally cut the new fuel line for it... jumped her off and listened to her run (with NO idle problems... YEA!!) patted myself on the back since there were no leaks...
This morning... cursed the leaks that appeared over night...
Yeah... a shocker...
Looked at the XS and thought about polishing her... because that's usually all she ever needs...

If I can make at least one person smile, or pee their pants a little, or maybe spit out their drink; then my day is not wasted.
Had a good and bad day. Rode the bike and will some more. My headlight and gauge lights would not work. So I jumped on here and learned how to bypass the headlight relay. Now it works. Then I started to ride. My blinkers would not work right. Came back took the switch apart and cleaned out all the grease I had in it. Found a connection in there I had over looked as a connection previously, the ground slash spring slash ?. Cleaned that up, now they work better than ever. Now I will ride.

I put the 850FD back on my 79F. It blew a seal a month back, so I put the stock 11 unit back on until I got the necessary parts to rebuild it. Haven't test rode it yet, but it should be fine. (knock)

79 special - put gas in it and rode to work
81 standard - got the easy outs out and pulled all the stripped jets and screws out of the carbs. Tried the electrolysis thing on the tank and failed miserably, I guess my battery charger is too "smart"

Have you tried using a battery? If you have a spare, use it instead of the charger. Most batteries I know of are dumb enough to put electricity through anything
Ordered the green coils wires and new clutch plates today from mikesxs. I have been doing some light polishing on the engine covers and foot/exhaust brackets. Changing my shift shaft seal when it comes in tomorrow.
