  • today I stripped the paint off my oil pan, clutch mechanism cover, fins on head, and oil filter housing. Put most of it back on and hoping now I will have pressure at my top end and the bike wont get SO hot with all that black paint

How'd you get the after one so dirty? Going for an antique patina or what? Really though, what did you use for cleaning, looks real nice!

        Hi psyco,
You did notice the brake caliper and fender mounts were missing?
I'd suppose he used a lathe.
Although my initial premise that he was assisting in a suicide was perhaps a little harsh.
Perhaps someone is putting the sturdier XS11 forks on an XS650 Tracker?

I've been looking at those, and they don't look like XS forks. Neither fork has a pinch section, and the drain screw is in the wrong place. I'm wondering what they are off and if anything was done on the after fork other than cleaning, maybe there was nothing on that one to start with. At this point we just don't know, but those certainly don't look like the forks for our bikes, special or standard.

                    • Painting my header pipes and muffler brackets, should look nice this time. I used barbecue paint the last time and it turned red and rubbed right off. I'm soo sick of painting things, twice.

                      • I bought a Quicksilver fairing on eBay. While waiting for it to come, I welded the cracks and breaks on my Windjammer. Tomorrow I will splash a little paint on the repair and go riding. Sunday we will try to get at the leaking seals and service the forks on Little Mo.

                        • Last week I sanded and painted my rusty exhaust with flat black header paint... Last weekend I put new tread on the front, put a K&N ait filter in, and did the petcock mod. Thanks agian psycho. Currently looking at buying a set of FJ forks and maybe valve adjustment, rejetting and synching carbs.

                          • The past couple days I've been working on painting the tank and side cover inlays. I didn't want to do a full perfection job so there will be some imperfections on the tank if one knows where to look. The full perfection job will come when my kid is a little older and I can get him to sand the tank all the way down under the guise of "playing with daddy". My end result will look 1000's of times better than the faded, patchy, no paint in some areas paint job that was on it when I got it and will prevent rust from occuring. Pictures will happen once I sand a far to noticable boo boo on the tank and add a few more coats of color and a few coats of clear.

                            • Put new intake gaskets on, getting ready to build a jig for a fuel level adjustment. I'm just taking a break out of the wind. I was hoping to be further along and syncing at this time cause the wind would be perfect to keep my engine cool. It blows hard around here.

Picked up some tygon fuel line and 8mm grease zirks to run the fuel lines from my carb bowls. I need to check my pilot jet passages to make sure they aren't plugged, I don't know how they could be, but I couldn't seem to get the idle mixture set right last time.

Oh yeah, I cut out some new petcock gaskets from some 1/8 inch nitrile sheet rubber I scored. I had to install them without the spring washers because of the thickness, and they are a little stiff to move the levers, but the seal is great, no more leaky petcocks.
