Ah, the XS is fine, mostly. They're getting a little old.. okay, a lot old but in the grand scheme of all things motorcycle the XS is a good machine and it doesn't take too much to keep it running. If people don't burn them up
and crash them
they're not too expensive to repair and they run great. Just don't mention tires. I'm thinking about messing with Metzeler, lopping Dunlop, mashing Michelin, antagonizing Avon, skinning Cheng Shen, keel-hauling Kenda and burying Bridgestone under a (where else?) a large stone bridge! Did I miss anyone? Pirates, the lot of 'em!
Look on the bright side, it could have been a $50,000 Harley-Davidson Oolah-Ottoman that burned up and the dealer wouldn't cover it under warranty because the Genuine Harley-Davidson digital entertainment center foobar reinversion sensor cap was replaced with an aftermarket cap instead of a Genuine Harley-Davidson cap and the battery wasn't topped off with Genuine Harley-Davidson distilled water from a Genuine Harley-Davidson distilled water dispenser by a Genuine Harley-Davidson factory-trained and certified disposer of all things distilled and dispensable.
Tires... I'm beginning to dislike tires. And stock Yamaha electrical systems.
To bring it back on-topic: today I plugged a hole in the rear tire of my XS and rode to the store to get stuff. The electrical system worked fine and remained trouble-free for the entire ten miles.
