  • Changed the fork oil and bobbed the front fender(slow day at work).
I used DexronIV full synthetic ATF in the forks, looking forward to the ride home to see how it feels. Will report back on that.

And there was plenty to look at ..

Ride was great, neck is kinda sore from looking at too much scenery.

WOW! One of those "didn't realize how bad it was" episodes!
Now if I could only find a way to improve the rear suspension as much......hmmm

LMAO! I almost did the same thing today! I had to remove the fairing and pull the ignition switch to fix a broken wire. I think it was a self-inflicted break.

I greased and reset the steering head bearings before riding out to Arizona last weekend and I must have cracked the Red (battery) wire loose from the back of the ignition switch when I was shifting around the handlebars and the instrument cluster. The bike started cutting out intermittently on the way back from Arizona, then died on a 2-lane freeway transition ramp with no shoulder on either side, a 30 foot sound barrier wall on the right and a low steel guardrail covering a 100+ foot drop on the left. I was mad and scared all at once and I had no idea what was wrong with Columbo this time.

I made it over the transition ramp then pulled into a little maintenance cubby hole in the sound barrier wall and wiggled a few wires under the instrument cluster until, suddenly! I got Oil and Neutral lights again! I took off like a shot and headed for the barn without stopping and I've been staring at the bike since yesterday, not wanting to tear into it and muttering at it under my breath.

              It is fixed now!

              • Had a new Dunlop rear D404 put on yesterday and what a difference! Same tire that was already on the bike and still matches the front. Didn't realize how bad the ride was with the baldie on there. More comfortable, free wheels easier, takes the curves better, and hoping to see a slight improvement in MPG. Now to figure why the headlight is so damn dim (maybe bad ground?).

                • Swapped the drilled rotors onto the front, and put the rotor covers on at the same time.

Bled the front brakes, with the new master cylinder. Bolted on the fuel tnak and took the bike off of the hoist.

Adjusted the new handlebars, installed the mirrors, set the clutch.

It is now standing on it's own wheels, in the driveway, instead of on my back lawn.

Just needs a good engine wash, and I can put the lowers on to take some pictures.

All that is left is to change the left sidecover lock to one I have a key for.

                    • Took the 78 over to the car wash (about 100yds) to clean it up for some pictures for the ad.

Took it for a short spin after, it was running like crap. Took it home, noticed it was smoking, took off the seat, and found out it completely destroyed the wiring harness from the snorkel back and the park light wire from the snorkel forard is melted to crap.

God I hate these ^%@*&%% pieces of &^$$.

Maybe the new thermostat you put in was the wrong temperature?

I'm sorry, Craz, that sucks. It really should have blown a fuse before it let all the magic purple smoke out of the wires.

It's, like, a rule, innit? The device always protects the fuse by burning up first.

I'm getting a bumper sticker made by someone I helped to fix an electrical problem today: "Yamaha Electrics Suck!" Just need to find the right Yamaha font and blue color so it'll look like O.E.M. on the fender; maybe some decals with three burnt, melted tuning forks for the side covers and the gas tank.
