She sat for about 3 years. She runs well, but the plug on the end of the tensioner is gone, so she spews oil pretty good when I start her up. I plugged the hole with some RTV just to keep any crap out while I am working; I am not sure it would hold up to actually running the engine or not and I don't feel like testing it.

I have since ordered an auto-tensioner and that should be here on Saturday, along with her new tires (the ones on it are from 2001 ). My local shop actually had the plug boots on hand, so I replaced them already.

      • I removed the temporary gauge I had set up for testing/monitoring the oil pressure and I wired in a Low Oil Pressure warning LED for my XJ11.

My first idea was for a gauge and a light but the gauge fitting won't fit the threads in the engine case.

        An adapter was necessary.

Protect the plastic oil line with clear PVC tubing and mount the gauge.

        • One more thing to take your eyes off the road, lol. My voltmeter on my Triumph has me taking my eyes off the road quite a bit. The way I see it, if I'm losing oil pressure, damage is already done. But, I installed the same gauge on my GS850.

The distraction is why I got rid of the analog mechanical gauge, it was supposed to be for running oil pressure verification on the road, not just in the garage but tracking down the correct adapter turned into something like an old-fashion CB tee hunt.

I don't expect the warning LED to help if I lose pressure on the highway but hopefully it'll come on if the engine starts to wear and give me a little warning. If it starts flickering at idle the engine's too hot, the oil's toast, or the bearings are going out. Right now, it goes off during engine crank and it stays off full stop.

Plus, it gave me something to put in the hole that the P.O. drilled in the ignition switch cover for his Walt Disney headlight switch kluge.

I have an electric gauge from Glowshift that I'm going to install when I get a 'tuit but the sender is a little unwieldy and I need to put some thought into fitting the tee, sender, and switch under the carburetors.

Edit: Yes, Brant, I actually need a bigger one for the 2-gallon picnic jug I'm going to bring so I don't have to keep stopping for puny little 1 quart refills.

              • Master fuse

I finally ran the master fuse link to the TC spade fuse box. I never trusted that glass fuse. I bought a second used oem unit cheap and cut the fuse holder off, then used the connector to hook into the line. The old one is still in there so it can snap right back to original or be used as an emergency if I run out of 30 amp spade fuses.

Then had my first ride of the year of any length. Nice but still a bit boggy when it gets hot--mufflers get louder. Not the fuel vent. I'm going to test the coils next.

                • Getting the bike ready for the Rally. New back tire, changed the oil and filter, Valve shims, put the faring back on.

Things I still need to do:
                  Replace the front tire
                  Fix the saddle bag doors
                  Put the trunk on
                  Align the front forks
Check the sync on the carbs
Change out the special tank to standard (if time permits) for better range. the seat is made for a standard tank.

...then pack up everything to make sure it fits on the bike

                    • Always Bring A Spare Helmet!

I rode to the. pharmacy and was flagged down by a young lady that wanted a ride to the next town down the freeway.

Of course I gave her a ride but we had to go by the house to grab a spare helmet That i[I]usually[I] keep on the bike.
