Thanks!! I think I'm ok with all the parts. Good to have a backup though. I need to fix the pop rivets on the bag latches. Got some new rubber seals from McMaster-Carr (#8507K67 Standard Rubber Edge Trim, 3/16" Opening, 5/8" Inside Depth, 10' Length) that jetmech thought would work. On the fairing I removed the bad hack splice wiring & improperly installed radio so I have some hack saw holes to cover. Good thing as you see from the pic, 'got legal lights' and more important, have a better chance of being seen by other vehicles on the road.

Yeah, not sure what to do about PO sanded PINK ...... Either get a couple "For the Cure" Susan G Komen stickers to put on the sanded pink spot -or- as you said maybe try and rattle can maroon the right bag. Also one bag lid is original maroon while the other was painted rattle can white. Not sure I want to spend the $$ to repaint the tank, side covers, fairing and bags. I prefer runs great to looks great. May name this thing 'Sleeper' if it turns out good.

Glad you ordered a replacement windscreen for Addie. Cracking at the attach points was getting pretty bad. Guess the new washers, reinforcement and temp fix I did a few years ago lasted longer than I was expecting. Will be a whole new world for you riding with a new windscreen.

                • Nice, patience is key. Anthing I have replaced cosmetic on my Venturer has been OEM or NOS only, which includes carrier rack, the opional lower backrest, and right-side exhaust, which came complete with head-pipe to muffler/crossover gaskets and already atteached heat shield. Pickins' are definitely getting scarcer though.

                  • When it rains, it pours.

A week ago I started a thread about loosing my headlights, and then finding that my final drive blew an internal seal. Fixed those issues, but while taking the tank off, found that my petcocks were leaking. I had performed a cheaper easier fix on them by using some 1/8" neoprene washers and a single hole puncher and made my own "valves". Because of the upcoming XSSoutheast trip, and low funds, and no time to wait for a kit from Georgefix, I performed the same quick/down and dirty repair again. They are working again, and I was able to swap my error around, putting the LEFT petcock handle/plate ON the left side where it belongs instead of the right where it was, and vice versa!

Then I was finally able to perform the Manual CCT conversion. Got that done, and put the bike together, took it out for a short ride and noticed that I no longer had turn signals! So..I did my troubleshooting process....Fuse check=good, voltmeter at fuse block, good 12V both sides of fuse, checked at Flasher connector, still12V, so...what's left is the left hand control switch assembly.

I hadn't done anything to the that switch, although I had been NEAR it when I was installing the switch for the headlight relay, but I didn't think I had put any strain or pulling on the handlebar switch wires? But I went ahead and pulled the switch apart.....and in the great words of one of my favorite TV personalities...."There's Your Problem" !

2 of the 3 wires of the signal switch had come unsoldered. I cleaned, retinned, and then resoldered them, put it back together....thinking I should probably do that 3rd wire...but it seemed to be well connected. Went to test it, and only 1 side worked! Took it back apart, and the 3rd wire had then broken off it's solder! Soldered it, and it's all together now and working just fine again! Let's hope nothing else decides to break before or during the trip!

                    T.C.

Oh, I also helped George/GloweVa put a new pair of skins on his SG's wheels in between my wire repairs! It's nice using those new 24" long tire irons I got at HF this past week!

Oh, BTW Brant, I use these thin vinyl "hand socks" because I'm also a surgical assistant, and we can't have any cuts on our hands, it's an infection hazard for patients when I scrub in, so I have to protect my hands while doing my "mechanical surgery"!

                          • Apology first, I didn't take any photos!

During this last recent XS East, I won the Indy Rick Brick award for dropping my bike at the gas station at the end of the day's ride! When it fell over to the right with ME on it, the forward controls brackets caught most of the bike's weight and prevented it from crushing my ankle, but the 1/8" thick angle iron I used for making the brackets wasn't strong enough to support the weight just at the BEND section of the bracket!

SO....I fashioned some nice little triangle wedges out of some leftover 1/4" thick material I had from my trailer build many a year ago..yep, I'm a packrat and don't throw away any metal or such that I think I might be able to use sometime in the future!

Unbolted the controls/brackets from the frame, ground off the black paint to get nice clean steel to weld to...then positioned the wedges and welded them with great penetration along the 2 sides/90 degrees of the bracket angle. They will have only added probably less than a pound, but will make my forward controls brackets stronger, hopefully enough to act like crash bars IF it ever becomes horizontal again! !

So...I think Godzilla is finally ready for XS Southeast in a couple of weeks, but have to trailer it down to AL. first while I visit mom, and then back up to Georgia for what I hope is a fun filled weekend full of twisties, good weather and good friends company!

                            • Tod, Harry, Bohn and I have been talking about taking a more southern route this year. We would be passing through Northern Alabama and Georgia then up to the IH. I 40 was pretty slow in a couple of places last year due to construction and accidents.

Maybe we could meet up and ride in together.
