Maybe we could meet up and ride in together.
    Hey Greg,

I'll be trailering Godzilla, I come up the eastern coast of Ala. on 431, then catch 185 at Columbus, and then run up to 85, and then up to Atlanta,(Usually around Noonish) catch the bypass and then onto 400/19 northward thru Dahlonega, then Owltown and Murphy, Andrews, Bear Creek, and to Robbinsville, catching 143 N/E Sweetwater Road towards Stecoah....where I turn LEFT to the "other" Motel just a couple miles up the road from the Iron Horse.

If you're coming across on Interstate 20, then you're going to want to go up thru Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and then across to Atlanta.

I'll be travelling on Friday that day from Ala.. I don't know what time you would expect to hit the Atlanta area, and in that rediculously large metroplex area, it could be difficult to try to arrange a "MEET UP" ? I would think on a stop once we got onto 400/19 north.

So...if you won't be embarrassed by me with the trailer"queen", then I guess we could try...again depending on around what time you would estimate hitting the Atlanta area?

    • Stay as far away from Atlanta as possible! On Friday the traffic jams extend from ATL, 75 miles in every direction!

I expect TC rounds 285 in the 1000 to 1400 window. Don't go there if it isn't necessary.

      • No, If we do go that way we'll be passing through Huntsville, Al. and Chattanooga just skirting south of the northern borders of Al and Ga.

        It was just a thought.

We may just follow I 40 but last year the traffic and construction sucked, especially between Nashville and Knoxville Then we got held up for a while on the road south from Knoxville because of a bad accident.

        • #4 cylinder decides to die out on the way to work which made a crappy ride to and from work. Plus I tipped her over as I was getting ready to leave work.....

          Overall a kinda crappy day.

          • Just one cylinder? Just about has to be a plug, cap or wire issue.

I got the new tire on the rear of my bike for the trip next week to XS Southeast.

                • Finally put the finishing touches on the 81 café. New bar end mirrors, grips and turn signals (thanks for all the posts regarding two pin flashers). Stitched the seat cushion. Attached the seat pan, and took her for its first rip around town since purchasing it. A little boggy on the take off, (a little rich, but my carbs are all set at 2 1/2 turns out...think I'll try 3 1/2), but man does she go after hitting 3k on the tach! Little unsettling, since I lifted the front wheel when she finally decided to scream. Raining today, pictures to follow.

                  • These engines are lacking a little under 3K. It sounds like it might be running about right.

                    • I know they lack a little, but it shouldn't wheelie like I'm stunting. It feels like I'm starting from a stop in second gear until the revs hit. My new plugs are tell-tale black as well. How far can you turn out the newer carbs without causing damage from being too lean? I've read that they can go leaner than the older ones, but I don't want to damage anything this fresh into the build. Maybe I'll just keep trying quarter turn increments.

                      • Turning the mixture screws out will richen it.

                        • Umm, turning the screws out makes them richer, not leaner. That same bog is what I had. To quote motoman: "make sure your floats (and sync) are dead nuts on". I do believe my carb issues from the bog were from a bad sync. Motoman has some good advice on how to properly sync.

                          • my bad....so, er....I shouldn't continue richening it up over and over....If I richen it to the point where I run out of fuel...it will run leaner.

                              • Actually stuck with the old bars, they were pretty close to drag bars with a small enough rise to clear the tank. I didn't want to shell out $80 for wide clubmans, (yet). Its actually pretty comfy, not ride all day comfy, but I could probably do a couple hours if required. The seat pad has got about four full inches of hi-density foam and isn't that bad.
