You just reminded me Bill. I need to look on my camera and see if I have anything on there from last year. (new camera, first trip)Greg

Yeah, left leg, shattered the tibial plateau into many pieces and tore the ACL from the bone. Ended up with 2 plates in there and who knows how many screws. For such a slow speed minor let down, i sure did a number on it. LOL.
I just can't commit to reserving a room and making plans since I have no idea when I will actually be able to ride again. Hoping to be riding well before then and gonna try to make the rally up in Michigan as well, but it is all up in the air.Harry

Finally
Hey all,
Time has come to get started with planning for the Southeast Rally. In fact the Saturday & Sunday ride routes are assembled and the shirt is 90% done.
So what else to do but test ride the routes. A few of the roads I didn't run last year so I just wanted to make sure the pavement was still ok. That what Marty & I did today, RIDE. Rode up here to TN & NC and rode the Saturday ride over to Etowah TN. We are now at the Ironhorse. It was quite a perfect day. Sunny and it hit 84 degrees. Total mileage today up from Atlanta was 320 mile ride.
The Sunday ride might be up to Hot Springs NC. Some beautiful roads and beautiful scenery. Marty & I will leave the Ironhorse in the AM and ride up there on the planned route. Then return to Atlanta.
I will post a few pics in the morning.

Rough Plan
Here's the SE Rally ride plan as we have it so far.
Saturday:
Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge going westbound over to Etowah TN for lunch at the Farmhouse Restaurant. About 100 mile ride and takes 3 1/2 hours with the all important rest stop. After lunch the return ride is 118 miles in about 3 1/2 hours riding with whatever stops the group wants. Like previous years the plan is to get back to the Ironhorse by 5:30 - 6PM so we can enjoy social hour and dinner and the evening fire pit. Ride includes the Cherohala Skyway & the Dragon along with a few 4mph 1st gear hairpins on a 12% grade.
Sunday:
Ironhorse northeast up to Hot Springs. A 141 mile ride to the lunch stop. Some great roads with some miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway. That's the route being ridden today.
That's the plan. Saturday ride has fewer technical miles than the previous two years. No South Carolina or Georgia this year on the Saturday ride. Same tricky roads in Tennessee so it will still be a fun ride.

Hello! This is not our first rally!

Thanks to those that set these things up for us to enjoy.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!

Not to Worry
I got you "Special" guys covered. I'm aware of the fuel constraint of the Special.
btw: I do the planning and I have a 70 minute bladder. So that's the limitation between gas stations, so we got adequate stops planned. This year the longest leg between gas / pitstops is maybe 65 miles. That should cover everybody;s needs. gas - snacks - pitstop. (As a side note, I rode 285 miles on one tank. Filled up this am and plan to ride back to Atlanta on that top off).
Marty & I now sitting at the Still Mountain Restaurant in Hot Springs NC. Beautiful sunny day and 84 degrees. Had some great ribs for lunch. Updates and pics later.

We got a very warm welcome at the Iron Horse last night. It was almost like coming home. They're looking forward to serving all of us in Sept.
Forget the Special range. For me it is no longer a factor. Range is dictated by prostate!
These last two days have been work, but loads of fun! The milkshake I just finished was awesome!Marty (in Mississippi)

Route test ride almost over. Roads are in pretty good condition after six months of rains and a real nasty winter (for southern standards). So I think we got a plan. Marty thought the road choices were acceptable for the group.
Got the "Special" gas stops all figured along with the pit stops. Even got some Ethanol Free stations planned too.
Saturday ride over the Cherohala Skyway
Time capsule, a "Blast from the Past" and with Ethanol Free Gas Too ....
Saturday Lunch stop. The Farmhouse Restaurant in Etowah
Just rode this leg an hour ago. Ribbon of Highway, eh
Planned for our Sunday Ride. The road into Hot Springs

<twitch> I wanna go ... <twitch>
But it's such a long ride ... <twitch><twitch>
But I could see my dad ... hmm, maybe.
Definitely have to start the trip earlier than I did last year; I'll see if they have any reservations left at the 'Horse and try to there before dark instead of doing the Dragon at night -- again!
