XS East has always been XS East. The fall rally has always been a vintage Japanese motorcycle rally that morphed into XS Southeast. We still have several participants who do not use this forum and never did. Some have been coming since almost the beginning. We used to get a lot of cool vintage bikes as can be seen on the Facebook page.
The tee shirt design went to the printer. Once we get his feedback and make the final tweaks, we'll start taking orders. There will be a new thread on that, so watch for it. Hopefully, we'll have it ready by the middle of the week.Marty (in Mississippi)

You know I was just thinking..... I might get the harley award. My bike will be riding on a trailer. But then I believe it might also be trailered the longest. What does that count for??????Tom

Some SE Rally Info
Last year Marty, Brent and I intended on having a brief Riders Meeting before the Saturday AM depart. We got behind and there was No meeting. That was dumb.
With riders of various skill, machines of varying state of perfection and with varying hard core mountain experience it is prudent to have a short Riders Meeting before we blast out for the Saturday ride. Meeting will also help everyone avoid any confusion as we line up and take off on both Sat & Sun. Just want everybody to 'be safe' and 'have fun' while enjoying the beautiful and twisty Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains.
This is Mega FUN but we don't want to do this in our group Romp over
the Cherohala Skyway and get people riding over their ability
Also, at last years SE Rally we had some people sitting in their cabins unaware the group was getting together. This year we at least want to make everyone aware
of what's happening and when (in case they would like to participate)
Plan to get everyone a schedule this year when they check-in. DRAFT
Hope to get John's seal of approval too!
That's about it for now.

This sounds good. I think at the east they went in groups of riding style. I have only been riding a year so I am not going to be one of the guys up front who tears up the dragon. I don't have enough experience to try that. I do ride a little aggressive sometimes, by myself but would never try to keep up with someone else. I guess we will all know where we are going so that wont be a big deal. I just cant wait to meet you guys and have a good time. I especially want to meet glow as he was really going to help me out at the east rally but I didn't make it. Also, I have factory coils and well, everything factory. Should I try to get some stuff off ebay to bring with me. Things that "normally" go bad? What would you guys do on your first rally? I think the farthest I have ridden at one time was about 150 miles so this will be the biggest ride for me. Thanks again guys.Jeff

XSEast was my first rally AND my first time in some serious twisties!
So, I'm a novice too when it comes to riding these tight hairpins, But I have been riding my XS for years now so I have a real good idea what she can and can't do.
As far as 'extra' parts, I would think that the most important spare might be a clutch cable. I'm bringing one, but I'm also riding 500 miles to get there and would hate to have one snap 1/2 way there.
I might throw in my saddle bag a few other items just for those crazy what ifs.Hi, my name is George & I'm a twisty addict!

LOL. Yeah, last year we were going to have two groups.. advanced riders going with Gary first, followed by the next group who would feel more comfortable at a leisurely pace. Several lined up behind Gary, and when he left, the whole group rode out with him.. lol. Just a touch of miscommunication, but I thought everything turned out just fine. Fine enough that I'll be returning again anyway. My only suggestion is for people to ride comfortably. If you notice that there tends to be a large gap between you and the rider in front of you, while others are very close behind you, you should wave those behind you by. Nobody is going to be left behind and it's not a competition.. and we don't want people riding above their comfort level trying to keep up, just as much as we don't want others having to ride much slower than they enjoy because someone won't wave them by.
Just my 2 cents..Last edited by trbig; 07-30-2013, 09:49 AM.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

That was well said tod. I know if I am holding someone back, I'll waive them around if I am way behind the next rider. I don't think I will be that bad though. And George, That is a good idea on the clutch cable, I need to get an extra one anyway. Good luck on your ride over George. Do you know your route over and when you will be there. I was thinking if you go the same route I do, I could come a little after you in case something happens. You may be a totally different route since you are coming from Va beach. If you see we will intersect routes somewhere, I could be sure to watch for you. I am sure everything will be just fine though, the bikes are like tanks. All I can say is "I cant wait!".Jeff

If everyone rides as Tod suggests, the group or groups tend not to get so strung out. The front bikes are moving at or below the speed limit on the straightaways, and more briskly in the turns. Where the gap is, is where you start to get the accordion. Once that's established the bikes at the back end up going the fastest. In the earlier days of this rally, we all knew each other well enough that most of us knew what position we belonged in. Still, if we're all on the same page, everybody has fun and nobody gets hurt.

John
I hope you just knocked on that wooden skull of yours for luck...
As was said, the problem I have seen many times is that the people that are slower in the twisties and fall back with more advanced riders behind them TRYING to be patient... then when you hit a straightaway where the faster riders could safely pass, the slower rider in the twisties pegs it to catch up and the ones behind can never get by safely. Anyone can go fast straight.. if you're falling behind on the curves, let some by you so they can enjoy the ride as well.
