  • Wear your mesh riding clothes people. It is going to be "HOT'. Oroville Washington (just south of Osoyoos) is calling for 100 degrees while we pass through on Sat/Sun.

    • mesh gear!

It is also going to be hot and dry on our ride from Montana to Lakeview Oregon.

To give your mesh gear a super charge strap on a water source (Camel Back) and drink a lot as you ride. It will also prevent serious dehydration which has a huge impact on ones mental process.

Keep the mind clear! drink water!

      • Soak your shirt! Put your mesh jacket back on, ride. The mesh controls evaporation and you'll be nice and cool till the next fillup. Worked for me on a hot day on I-40 in New Mexico. Hydration is a must as well.

        • It looks like work and family obligations will keep me from making the anniversary ride. I hope everyone enjoys themselves and has lots of fun, and take a bunch of pictures for those of us who can't make it. Steve.

Am a bit embarrassed. I was checking the cam chain adjuster, seemed like I was getting a LOT of engine noise, and I broke the casting. So I am dead in the water for the XS. Don't suppose you have a spare? I will be in Tacoma tomorrow am and could swing down and pick it up.

            Pm me with you cell

            Thanks Jeff

                Sent you a PM, Jeff.
Plenty of engines lying about around here.

                    • Oh, the shame...

New job responsibilities and woes have got me all tied up and it appears that I will be MIA for this epic ride. I tried my best to get away but to no avail. I thought about riding out through Spokane to meet up with you all in Montana but even that seems like a long shot. Have fun, post your pics and toss a few back for me. I am really bummed...

                      Damn!

                      • we are dropping like flies

                        Denny,

I have been scrambling like the mad the last couple of days to get caught up and thought I was there. After some hard thinking this afternoon I just can't afford the time off. All of a sudden the work load here has just ramped up. And it has been so quiet the last couple of weeks. Customers, what can you do.

I am so disappointed. I worked all winter on the XS doing my 30 year tune up just thinking of this ride. It has been too long since I have been on more than a couple of days ride.

I hope you have a great ride. Wish I could join. I hope you all have miles of smiles. The route looks great.

                        Oh yeah, be safe.

I'm not going to be able to make the entire Oregon Coast loop but would you be interested in riding out to Tillamook to meet up with the group and ride as far as Astoria or Seaside? We could even meet up with Poprock somewhere before going north. I'm just too busy to take more than a day off for a bike trip.

                          • Hey, Geezer,
Thanks for the thoughts. I'll have to 4-wheel it to a watering hole like The Blue Heron or the Cheese Factory to greet everyone. Kong is in need of a valve transplant or two before he can roll again. I hope I can make the connection. Brent is supposed to call me when the entourage gets near.

                            • Message from Denny

Afternoon all you XSives! This is Meri, good friend of DennyZ. I received a text from him a short while ago that goes something like this: "We are in Winthrop. 6:00. 3 hours behind. please post." And another that says: " We are 4". So... I assume that means there are four guys in the group tonight. Or maybe he was going to tell me which candidates get their votes and was cut off prematurely. One can never tell.

As for me... I spent this unusually hot day for the PNW swimming in a nearby lake with my lovely Low-La parked safely in the garage. I'll ride her when it cools down a bit.

I will post more notes from Denny as they come in. Hope you're all having a great summer! Stay cool!
