2008 "ride along"
Den, that is a great idea, especially the 'terrain', and gives riders a chance to ride at 'their' own level, rather than be a "pack' rider, as well as gives no one responsibility for anyone! It is a momentous occasion for "YAMAHA", and the XS11, and would be so cool to meet other riders along the way! Zonker, may be sold, but the STD, will be there to ride! (isn't a Yamaha standard, tricked out, a socially transmitted disease!!!!) If I have offended, I appologize, and will be a "rookie" on this ride! WHEN??

Man, looking at that map, you guys don't mess around when it comes to road ralley's. That is extremely huge. Not sure if I could survive that. Anybody close to point 14? Would like to try and meet up for at least a hello or possibly tag along a while.
I have been to Astoria a couple times. beautiful place.1980 XS Eleven Special

BTW, Denny, what software are you using for that? It sure looks a lot better than whet I've got on my computer.Ken Talbot

Great route.
It looks like you are coming right through Port Townsend if you, bring camping gear there are a lot of good camping areas in and around Port Townsend, for an overnight-er. Or if there aren't too many of you, we might squeeze you into the backyard. Dennz are you the one planning this rally, if so pm me a phone # and I will call you. I"m from St. Maries Id. and grew up riding in North Idaho and know a lot of good side trips. Some are not to be missed. Also a useful tip when planning the trip it's North Idaho not northern Idaho there is a difference.Fastmover

The route I pick was just off the top of my head from my experience riding the PNW. This may look like a long ride, but it is actually not that bad. 2400 miles in 7 days is under 400 mi. per day. We can change/adjust it any way we want. We can adjust the nights to fit better stopping places. The night stops the program selected are not very realistic. Olympia to Osoyoos (370 mi.) is a very doable days ride. I will adjust them as we nail this thing down more. I figure to spend my first night in Osoyoos and the second night around Missoula.
The important things is to get the dates set a side. The 15th is a Friday. I figured anyone wanting to start out at my place could show up Friday evening and we would head out Saturday morning.
I would like to select 3 places where we can hang out for a day. Since the 20th is a Thursday, we could actually run this thing all the way through Sunday (24th). This might give riders more opportunity to join in. What do you think?
How about we find a place somewhere between Coeur d'Elean and Missoula on the 17th-18th for our first rest day? Anybody have a home they want to open up to a bunch of strangers on motorcycles? All we really need is a place to put beer and room for some tents.
I figured I would carry a log book and pass it around to anybody that wants to write in it.
The program I used to map it is Microsoft's MapPoint. Some of the number spots are just their to force the program to go a particular way.
We will have a WEB site for this event soon.DZ

OK, it is an official rally. Ken is meeting me at my place to start the run. All are welcome, I have plenty of room (indoors and out). I will have beer and BBQ something on the night of the 15th. And breakfast the next morning to get us going. We will spend the night in Oysoyoos Canada on the 16th. From there we will ride to somewhere in North Idaho. I see mention of possibly a KOA.
If the group is OK with me ramrodding this I can. It would be nice to have some day rides on our down days setup by local folks that know the area.
Another option is to break it up into four mini rallies. Another host can pick it up in North Idaho and lead us south to our next down day. A new host would take us West to the Oregon coast for our three down day, and the fourth back to Olympia. Just a thought.DZ
