Jeff, sorry to here you won't be able to make it. We will do our best to have fun with out you!

Yea, the road around Mt Rainier could be an issue. The last time I check they thought it would be open by August. Time to check again. I better have a "plan B".

            Hope this helps!

I did a little digging on the WA State Patrol site:

            White Pass:
            Temperature:N/A
            Restrictions Eastbound: No restrictions
            Restrictions Westbound: No restrictions
            Conditions & Weather:
US 12 milepost 146, five miles west of the White Pass summit is open. The roadway is reduced to one lane and alternating traffic is directed by flaggers. Delays can be expected. //

            East Side of Mt Rainier:
            CAYUSE PASS
            Elevation: 4675ft / 1425M
            Temperature:N/A
            Conditions & Weather:
Cayuse Pass remains closed due to road damage that occurred late last fall and additional damage that occurred through the winter. Due to the work needed to repair this damage opening SR 123 Cayuse Pass will be delayed and may not occur this summer. Those desiring to access the National Park can do so by accessing the South end of SR 123 from US 12. //

Restrictions Northbound: Closed for the season
Restrictions Southbound: Closed for the season

            North:
            CHINOOK PASS
            Elevation: 5430ft / 1655M
            Temperature:N/A
            Conditions & Weather:
Mountain pass reports have ended for the season and will resume November 1. Should significant weather events affect driving, the reports will be updated as information becomes available. //

              Road Closers

One thing about these mountain roads is that you go as far as you can and then turn around and ride out. Going in the opposite direction and it is just like a brand new road.
There are 2 sides to Mount St Helen. east and west faces. I was down the back side (east) of Mt St Helen in May. The road up to the look out was closed but the connecting road that runs all the way to the Columbia river is still a great ride even if you can't get up to the lookout.
We will figure something out. I have never done them but understand that there are some really good National Forest roads just east of there as well.
Plus the Cascade Hwy could be explored.

Well, I won' be able to make any of the rides, but I will try to make it over on the night of the 15th. Since I live down the street that should be no problem. Be nice to meet some of you.

                  Denny,

                  FYI

                  CLOSED for the Summer.
Flood damage is being repaired. Hwy 123 - North is closed to all traffic (biking, walking, vehicles).
For road information, check the Washington State Department of Transportation web site or call 1-800-695-ROAD (7623) toll-free statewide or 206-DOT-HIWY (368-4499) in the greater Seattle area.

This is the north south road on the East side of the park.

Looks like I will have to come up with another ride. The coast is a nice ride.

                      Denny,
cant we go up the south side?
I am not all that familar with the roads around the mountain.

                      I had another question.

Does anyone have the radios for bike to bike commo?
I do not at this time have such, wish I did though.

I'll be down on Friday for sure, not sure if it will be all day or after work yet, but I will be there! A whole weekend with fellow XSives, I can't wait! I haven't got to ride much the last few weeks as my daughter is visiting, but I am sneaking out for a ride today, After I bleed the brakes on my truck She leaves Tuesday, so next weekend is on for me.
I am looking forward to the rally and riding with something other than Harley's. Most of my buddies are at Sturgis right now, one day i will make it just to go to the Buffalo Chip on wet t-shirt night

                                Denny,

I talked to the park the other day and it seems like the road across the south side of the park is open to 123. with only a couple of very short pieces of gravel. we could then take a right turn there and make a loop back to the south instead of to the north...

or what about up the hood canel? major twisty, maybe too much traffic.
