That would be great, I'll have my Laptop which can play DVD's. I'll also bring the old Suches, Ga. Tail of the dragon DVD as well, for those that haven't seen it.
Omega/Mark, good thing we're in NY with the sweepers instead of Ga, NC, Tenn. with all of those tight twisties, cause I heard those V-maxs don't like to turn!
Hey Wayne, yeah, now we can be sure to document the long and short of the rally!

For any riders coming up I-95 from the south, you’re welcome to overnight at our home Thursday night. We’re in ViennaVA, just off I-495/I-66 and its only another 410 miles to Port Ontario.
Well, I dropped of my rims and tires last Thursday at the local bike shop to have them mounted – the staff couldn’t believe how heavy the rims were. I guess in the intervening 29 years, motorcycle manufacturers have shaved a few pounds off the rims. Picked them up Saturday, cleaned them up, lubbed them, then mounted them Sunday. Back brake was squishy so I bleed the rear brakes. You know what a pain it is to access the reservoir cover. I must have jiggered the electrics – during my test rides (to make sure I got the tires back on correctly) I was having the total electrical system going dead problem. Just had to jiggle the main hot lead to get her going. I’ll set down tonight to tighten all those leads. I have another set of exhausts, so I’ll swap out my corroded out set for those.
Back in the winter, I signed up my 18 year old son for an MSF course (they fill up quick around here). I have been taking him out the last two weekends on my bike going through the basics with him – the slow ride maneuvers, letting him get used to shifting, simultaneous brake and clutching and such. He was a big help this past weekend cleaning the rims and aiding the reassembly. (But I put down my 3/8” ratchet and it must have fallen down some black hole. I searched everywhere and cannot find it.) He’ll get to ride the Special I have (Dave Hill’s old ride), once I get the signals working. Unfortunately the class is the weekend after XSEast – I would have loved to have him ride up for the weekend.

Still waitin on my painted parts in Ontario but right now I have a creepy bike!Yeah the bike wants to creep in 1st gear with the clutch engaged......anyway, workin on it. I think the plates are kinda dried up from sittin around for 6 yrs. maybe if I blow torch the discs and then soak em in motor oil eh? LOL. I left a new thread on the bike discussion area of the site....
I'll get it.
Bruce
Bruce (desert1) and I drove up to Dieppe, NB this afternoon in his Civic. We had to wait until the snow melted there!
I was to do a test ride of the V-Max I wanted to buy and bring home if it was Okay. The temperature was 3.5 C with light rain and mist. Real Cold!
The bike started nice enough but Bruce noticed through that beautiful V-Max engine sound an intermediate, metallic slapping sound. I decided to test ride it anyway and through the freezing cold I noticed that the bike was difficult to turn, acted "squirrely" over bumps and pulled alittle to the right. We also noticed that there was evidence that the bike went down at one time.
It was with some reluctance I declined to purchase it. I test drove a Honda small cruiser next but I did not like it. So I'll have to fall back on the Scooter. I'll have to get it back to touring mode tomarrow. At least it will get great gas mileage....

I know that this thread is not where this should be, but as the rally is in New York I see an 80 XS original owner from Syrcuse on ebay. It looks good. Maybe someone close there could check it.

Thanx for the offer on a bike Gary, like your Trophy, I'd pick that one! But, I just got news from Ontario that my brother will be bringing the tank, side covers and tailpiece with him Mon/ Tues or Wed. at worst I would be leaving a day later than my fellow Canucks......as far as my clutch I may end up just swapping from my old engine.....today I brought in my 79's Special tank to work and starting to resurect it for the ride.....also I have one broken but usable side cover .....the other side cover probably cardboard or red ductape, what a side I'd be rollin into New York border crossing! Anyway, just gotta settle this clutch issue, find a geesly big duffle bag, mount my saddlebags, find my passport and a few other details and hope my transmission aint wonky!
Hey Doug about that VMax it deffinitely had engine issues, worn wrist pin more likely worn bearing shell at the rod/crank area. Bike looked ike it had a hard 30000 kms........
Called Mark today left a message about a Honda Super Magna forsale here in Halifax.

Have a nice ride here, next 5 days are going to be beautiful, rally weekend may not be as good but too far out to tell. I will just make smaller rides to beat weather if we have any. If anybody wants to come up early the weather is going to be great this week, even some 80's wed, thursday. I am off all week!! Will be riding, 4 wheeling, etc.
