    At 23mm you're close, raising them, which lowers fuel level ( for the newbies) , that'll probably do it.

        I went up 2mm to 25mm and the level is still about 3mm high. I'm not going any further because the needle out-of-the-seat travel is decreasing too much.

            The idea with the fuel level (4newbs), stated in the manual, is always to have the resting level in the bowl so as not to depend on the gasket too much. I know my stock '80G carbs tune easily and run smooth when running fuel levels are in between the washer and the head of the screw.

                I've heard the general rule of thumb is a couple mm below the gasket. Right now I'm where the washer meets the bowl.. I'm sure it's the cheap floats causing the problem, but bending that tab any more is too much. Runs good before I even synced or tweaked IM.

                    Sync was only off a little. Started with IM at 3 turns. Had to screw all the way in to get a lean stumble. Left them at 1.5. Blue smoke big time on first start but seemed to decrease the more I ran it. Serious cylinder wash. The crankcase was full of gas.

                            He's coming to get it. I told him too many hands on everything and I've already spent too much time. When a repair becomes a restoration it's not a money maker.
