Will a Standard fuel sending unit be a direct bolt on for a Special tank?...If so would the gauge be fairly accurate?

Problem is the Standard float arm unit is on the left side of the tank and the Special's thermistor setup is on the right side, meaning the unit would have to be installed upside down. Might be possible to modify the Standard's unit somehow for a reverse fit. The bolt pattern is the same for both.

Thank you sir....upside down does that mean when the tank shows full its empty lol.
Do you think there is enough physical room inside the special to make something work?

If not I guess either steal the dummy light from a special or rig a light and use the thermistor function....

You may not have to with the electronic gauge you bought. If it can be adjusted to measure the difference, be it up or down, no problems. If you want to use the XS1100 gauge, you will have problems. One way would be install the sender so the float goes to the back of the tank. It will not work well when full, but WILL let you know as the level drops.

Yeah, sorry. It's been a long week. I try and help as I "relax" at work, then go home and try to get my '79 ready for this Friday...

                    Evaporust results..... seeing is beleaving

After 1 gallon and sloshing around

Stopped being cheap added 2 more gallons total of 3 gals....

I'm feeling better about putting gas in that tank. Getting ready to rinse with water and add some penetrating oil slosh it around to coat everything to prevent flash rust till ready for gas......

That is why I returned mine and went with the UNIs. They don't look near as cool -- no taper and even the rear end caps are no longer chrome (as still shown in most of the pics) *BUT* they don't give me no lip!

The left side I had to grab with a set of vice grips that I had to close it with a huge pair of channel lock pliers then tap with a hammer and it came loose as well...Me so happy!!!!!!

At work I have a set of reverse-spiral drill bits and I'm forever amazed at how well they work as easy outs . . . AND they don't jamb in and make the piece you're trying to remove *larger* as the typical tapered easy outs do. I start with a relatively small bit and move up one size at a time. At some point -- usually when I'm about to start getting into the female threads I wanna' keep(!) -- it just zips right on out . . . still stuck on the drill bit.

I need to rebuild my MCs and calipers too. Any chance you would provide a list of the parts you used (with part numbers) and where you ordered them from? Will be much appreciated!
