I would try flattening the washer on the throttle linkage, extreme left, and loosening the nut slightly. I removed mine to zinc plate the washer and nut and when I put them back on, I over tightened them slightly and found the throttle stuck. Might be worth a try...XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. OK. #1 is the easiest to remove from the rack. Take it off and figure out what's hanging up.Greg

PS......do it in a pan with tall sides, like a plastic dish pan. So you don't have any tiny pieces ( like a tiny detent ball for the choke rod ) fly away into never never (never find it) land.Greg

Are you sure that there is nothing actually stuck in the bore of the carb? A tiny piece of grit or whatever. The brass butterfly would tend to force it into the softer aluminium. Have you opened up the butterfly and felt in there, and on the edge of the butterfly itself?XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Today I'll get back to the carb diagnosing...
Yesterday I decided to go to the gym with my buddy whos a Sgt in the army...
Needless to say, sitting down and working on the carbs will be a blessing after working on cars all day at work today....79F

The butterfly valve is WAY off center in the throat of that carb. Have you loosened the 2 screws that hold it and see if it frees up?
Also, if that nut on the end of the shaft ( right side of video outside the carb) is too tight it will cause sticking too.Greg

How soft are the screws?79F

A GOOD #2 Phillips is what you need. Set it in the head by lightly tapping it in and turn the screws counter clockwise carefully slowly increasing force and they will come loose. Set the carb on a bench or table so you can hold the driver in there good. Some penetrating oil wouldn't hurt either. You don't need to take them out, just loosen them.
Before you do that loosen the nut on the shaft and see if that helps.Greg

okay, I got everything loose.
I can get the butterfly to act smoothly without that nut on the side.
But the MOMENT that nut comes into play even finger tight, things start binding up.
Whats the correct procedure to setting this?
EDIT
GOT IT!!
My problem was that one of the spring coils, sunk into the gap that was made when I loosened everything
Now its all tightened and working how it should be!Last edited by sparkfly88; 11-14-2013, 07:31 PM.79F

That nut doesn't need to be "tight". It has a washer that bends over the flats to keep it from backing off. Screw it on to the point just before it starts binding and lock it there with the washer.
Then, close the butterfly all the way. Make sure it is centered good in the bore and retighten the screws.
Understand?Greg
