  • Well I have a new handlebar coming from a gl1100 and the new intake boots.

At least all the work I'm doing is improving it as I go along

Here is the video of it running,

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHH5...e_gdata_player

It sounds FANTASTIC now that it's burning properly.
Just need to seal up the vacuum leak.

    • Talk about a total transformation.

      It idles great!

But now, all I need to do it slightly move the throttle and it floors it.

All the intakes are sealed and tight. No vacuum leak from the petcock hoses or the end caps...

      Hmmmm....... Still an air problem?
Maybe another carb cleaning is in order......?

Too lean will make it run away like that, too rich will make it dopey and unresponsive. In one of your videos it sounded like it popped once the RPM got up (~5K ) but then you hit the kill switch... if it starts popping then it means its getting more lean in that RPM range. Pull the plugs and post a picture of the color. Keep track of what hole they come out of (#1 cylinder is the left more cylinder sitting on the bike).

Im not entirely sure but maybe the sync is off still... did you perform a sync? It might be best to pull them and do a bench sync to get you started but, to get it tuned the best you will need some type of sync "sticks" (vacuum gauges, fluid manometer). There are instructions on the site on building your own fluid manometer out of clean pvc hose and transmission fluid.

        • I bought the Morgan carbtune. Cream of the crop right there.

          They are perfectly synced.

I'm having the feeling I'm lean too.... But what to do to solve it.... Lol

          • How did you set the idle mix screws?

Adjust them to get the highest vacuum on each cylinder, then sync, then adjust for guest vacuum and sync again.

            • You have no load on the engine, I am not sure it is wrong the way it is running. Look at the plugs. Take it out for a spin and see how she acts under load.

IDK if I agree with that. The first thing I noticed after syncing my bike was its responsiveness. Not only opening the throttle but how fast it settled to idle rpm after letting the butterflies snap close... I still think he has a mixture and sync issue... something isnt right.

Idk what else it could possibly be other than the carbs.. .

                      • Well, after changing the tires and rebuilding the suspension, I took it for a ride yesterday, and just now today.

I think it's starving for fuel.

If I keep it at a higher rpm while cruising, it bogs down, but if I slow down, then go faster again, it is restored for a little while.

If I recall what I have read, this can be caused by incorrect float level ( I have them set to OE specs.) or the tank valve isn't venting.

So my first experiment will be to ride with the cap hinged open.

If it still doesn't run, I'll tear into the carbs AGAIN and change the float levels.

                        Correct?

                        • I really doubt it is float level. Cap vent is likely.

All the holes let air through and it's cleaned up.
