Search for a post from Dan Hodges, he unveiled his master secret specialist that makes pistons. Wiseco stuff just went through the roof on pricing, and Dan suggested that the specialty shop may be cheaper.

looks like terminology/country barrier going on,but you guys seem to have nutted it out.have been on the road all week so am just reading all this now.
a couple of things,TopCat siad about valve paste, there is a COURSE and a FINE, use in this order for a proper job, down here they,re in the same tube,[either end]
if your going to get oversize pistons, take all 4 to your machinist numbered 1-4 and have him individually machine each JUG. having spent 3 1/2-4 yrs & $5300 rebuilding mine if your going to do it, do it right, do it with care/pride after all it will be YOUR bike
to maybe throw in another tailspin with all that rust on your stator, check to see if your rotor still has magnet pull, use a screwdriver, being magnetic between two fields is where you get charge from

andreasweiss is a forum user that salvages these bikes. see what he has for a set of pistons rings and a cylinder block. If you,re lucky, you could get a matched set that would be more or less a bolt on.

I used a deep socket and a hammer to get valves out. Just tap the socket on the end of the spring cap and the keepers will come out. Wish it was that easy to put them back in. Also with the recessed valve springs, a normal spring compressor doesn't cut it. Your rigged C clamp is probably far better than my craftsman valve spring compressor. I'm jealous...

Sorry, is your scoot a standard or a special? I have an extra tank off a special that has a sender unit. If its that important to you, we can work a deal. My special the light don't work until after I hit reserve anyway. I just use the trip meter and lots of luck.....

                          • You need to use high heat paint.Your exhaust gets up to 1000 degrees from what Ive read.
I also saw in another post that you can get high heat powder coating

For the engine, start with cleaning down to bare aluminum. Use the "self etching"primer, and then a good engine paint. ( 350 to 500 degree).
The headers will take a HIGH HEAT paint. a 1500 degree is best, but 1200 degree should work. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PAINTING!!! If it says you need to "bake" the paint, DO NOT PAINT IT UNTIL THE ENGINE IS READY TO RUN! Then paint, install, and runt for about 10 minutes to start the bake. Cool for about 1/2 hour, and repeat the run. Cool for 1/2 hour and then run for 20 minutes. If you do NOT do this, the paint may not hold up.
All this paint is available in rattle can.

                              • cleaning....

cleaning this bike SUCKS!!! there is SO MUCH dirt EVERYWHERE!!! i have been getting after it with my dremel and a vacuum. very time consuming but i gotta do it!

I think Im just going to paint the covers. Seems like Painting the engine would be a big hassle right now. When painting the covers do i still need a primer?

                                thanks AGAIN... like always
