And so it begins ... Another bike building project

I have a pair of fog lights in the same location on my E. Sadly I have to turn them off when the RPM dropps below 2,000 as my alternator (with the super-duper reg/rec) won't power them. My voltage drops to 10v and the battery drains before the traffic light changes to green. I may take them of and put them on my son's car.Pat Kelly

OK .. I got off my ass this afternoon and glass beaded the front and rear wheels. Turned out pretty good ... Also did the nooks and crannies of the brake parts. So now all I need is a good day for painting the clear coat on these parts and the bike will start going together again.

I got all the brake cylinders honed yesterday and perped everything for clear coat paint but it took to raining before I was fully ready. That being the case I figured I would cleanup and hang the Kerker header which is now done but I will need more SS hardware to fully tighten it place. Part of that will also involve making a new longer bracket for the driving light on the left hand side of it could get melted by the pipes. Right side is OK. As usual, more pics

Well I farted around in the garage this morning and got a few odd jobs completed. I can't really move forward with anything major, like getting wheels and handle bar switches on her until I can do some painting. Wednesday looks good for that job. Anyway I got the longer driving lights installed, completed the header installation done after finding a few SS nuts on the bench that fit. Got the turn signals mounted and HID lighting ready to go. Being that there's no room on the frame for the ballast I opted to mount it right on top of the headlight. I hope that will not be an issue. The instructions state that the entire system is completely water proof so I will keep my fingers crossed on that one. OH, for those who are wondering, the gloves on the handle bar ends are to keep ME from walking into the bars and knocking the bike of the stand. I'll be glad when the front wheel is installed.

Got the small stuff and calipers done. Calipers are VTH and the others are regular engine clear. They look OK but the shine level of the parts has been reduced somewhat.

Front wheel is done, Again some of the shine is lost by the clear coating. So rear wheel and the caliper hangers will complete this job.

It's a kind of industrial cast look and I can live with as well. I have decided to do the tank and body parts in gloss black with painted flat black pin striping.

Rob - I just read a thread on Caswell Platings website, that says the haze in a vht coating will go away if you heat cure it. JATI think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

A question about paint baking
When I bake the paint tomorrow do I just put the parts on a cookie sheet or do the surfaces have to not be in contact with anything like when they were painted?
Also, is there any minimum or maximum time frame between applying the paint and the time it is baked other then being dry to the touch?Last edited by 79XS11F; 05-16-2009, 11:17 AM.KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN
