    test for power

test for power at the coil on the red/white wire that is connected to the positve . Key must be on IIRC . If no power - trace back through the wiring harness until you find power ,cleaning plugs and connections along the way and re- plugging them with some di-electric grease . OR start at the TCI and check for power at the red/white wire . Did you check for that main fuse that isnt in the fusebox but under the seat hanging from the frame ???

ok I made some progress I did get all wires to spark! but now I keep blowing a fuse as soon as i turn the key on. the fuse that keeps blowing is the one closest to the front of the bike in the fuse block

          Progress

Excellent . I'm afraid the gremlin of the fusebox is upon you . What is the fuse for ? I have an XJ so I dont have the same fusebox as you . Is it to do with ignition ?
I dont think it matters which wire goes where as long as the 1&4 coils sparks 1&4 and the 2&3 coil sparks 2&3 IIRC

ok I wondered that since I didn't see anywhere that stated how to do that part and it would be REALLY important to know if it mattered. I am not sure yet what that fuse is for I do know the starter wilkl not turn over if it is blown but I don't knw if it goes anywere else or not. I am guessing it has a short somewhere to keep blowing like it does. it even smoked a lil the last time it blew

              fusebox meltdown

My fuse box has fuses for IGN ,Head ,Tail , SIG so I imagine your ignition fuse is the culprit . If you havent replaced your box , it may be a good time to do so . Ppl have said that they removed the box and wiring was melted behind . It might be time to disconnect your battery and inspect .

P.S. what amp of fuse is it blowing ?

                        Bike just won't start!

*Can you find a hill to roll it down? Mine never starts even when new because of the oil and such that gets in it. After I roll it down a hill, it normally starts and I can see loose nuts and the like that prevented it from running.
*I think you have a fat blue spark [It fired over and tried to idle but died after about 2 seconds.] that indicates that the bike will start and is in good running order, basically.
*Since you did carb work, it follows that you might have loused something up. Either take it apart and check, let the bike shop look at it, or...... did you get the hose to the vacuum advance in the right place? It looks like the one to the diaphragm and if they are crossed the bike won't start.

Hi, thx for the replys. when I said the bike started and ran for 2 seconds thats because the gas tank wasn't on the bike it just had a lil gas left in the carbs enough to start but not run. all my fuese are a mess so I am going to replace the box then as soon as my back lets me get out of bed I will get it started

                            Rebuilt petcocks

I am sure there are a few more things but I can't think of any right now. I do have a few small things to do still before I ride like change the rest of the fluids but that won’t take long.

                                Lots of wrenching ...

have you done this on bike, edavi. Well done. Sounds very familiar,in fact, had I kept a list on one of mine, it would have compared. Just wait, though .... it's gonna' wanna' rip the bars right outa' your hands. You'll see.
