Who Wants A Bolt-on Chaindrive And Fat Tire?

No I am not at this point in time thinking about widening the rim for a Hugh rear tire. I don't want to get too far away from the stock appearance and by chance the 79 650 SF came with a smaller fat tire as part of its "special" enhancements. At this point all I really have to do is decided if I want to build my own XS11 based swing arm or go with the 650 swing arm. The 650 swing are "may" be the easier faster fix but it does not look like there is going to be a Hugh difference in the amount of work / weilding required to make ether one work.

Yeah, I agree, I thought very carefully of what I wanted the final look, and ease of maintenance to be, The KZ swingarm is close to shock mount points like the xs and could be designed to bolt to the xs frame with a custom rod as well, or could be milled in the same way to weld the xs11 pivot tube as well....JAT However you go about it, you will love the extra zip at the rear wheel and you will have to get used to not worrying about the rear torque reaction that is scary in the hard corners when you hammer down on the throttle.....

WOW! Fits like a glove....well excluding O.J.'s..... Ideal situation here, may just need to space the sprocket out to the left @ 10mm... The outter rim to inner sprocket is 40mm ( ideal) and is a 5.0 rim.....If Pggg were still here, He'd be droolin"....I will get a few pics up tomorrow....chop

On the xs11 stock shocks, can the lower mounting tabs be turned 90 degrees in comparison to the tops? I can't remember.... If so I am going to machine some adapters to be able to mount the xs11 shocks to the zrx swingarm, since the zrx stock shocks are @ 2" longer

I haven't tried turning the ends 90deg from each other on the stock shocks, but you can turn them any way you want on every shock I've seen so far...don't know how many times I've had to turn them in order to get them to line up properly to install..

Be careful that the shocks don't bind when mounted in such a way tho..

I also have not in the past seen any shock that did not have the ability for the ends to be rotated differently to one another. I also can confirm that this is the case for the 1100s shocks from when I painted my stock units with the springs removed.

since the ZRX swingarm has the shock tabs at 12" inside to inside and will need longer shocks because (IT IS LONGER than the xs11) I figure these can be made: but with whichever off set is needed when I get to the point of figuring where the lower shock tabs need to be so I dont have to mess with the tabs on the xs frame.....And no one else will have to either....hence the name (BOLT-ON CHAINDRVE)

If you have the original 4-2's with the crossover pipe/with boxy looking thing, and you want to keep them, this mod is not for you. 4-1's and your safe with this swingarm.....chop

the stock 4-2 has some boxed areas near the mufflers that interfere with the zrx swinger

XS650 Rear rim

The XS650 special rear rim arrived today and other then the difference in the casting to hold the sprocket, it is exactly the same as the XS1100 rear wheel. This will make the retro fit somewhat easier and retain the bikes stock appearance.
