I've purchased several parts from the seller/company CALTRIC over the years with only one issue. Water pump seal for my FZR was a POS. They refunded my money without question. Otherwise, everything I've purchased from them has been good. Nice to know they are big enough to resolve an issue, many Evil-bay sellers are not that good.

Thanks. Got organic brake pads from them for the front of the ZRX before the 2019 Colorado Rally. 7,000 miles now and wearing evenly, super bite and super good price.

The chain price is great! My potential concern would be stretch, look forward to how it does for the FJ1200 with respect to frequency of adjustment, overall life. But you probably aren’t going to be putting 5,000 miles or more a year on that bike. Been running EK and DID chains on the ZRX 1200 (approx 10,500 tensile strength) that go past 30,000 miles so can’t complain.

I hadn't occurred to me that my bikes could now be re-branded as YAMA-Davidsons

• All of my XS11's have HD Mufflers.....
• Dead Duck (Gold One) has a HD Sporty Seat....
• FJ1200 now has HD backrest parts.....

I may have to go get an ugly HD tattoo if I keep this up!

XS Friends,
Since I couldn't find and affordable set of decals that is correct for this machine I decided to just paint them on the lower fairing where they are missing.

Those that have been following along know I purchased a set from Hungary but they turned out to be correct for the '85. I can use some of that set when I EVENTUALLY repaint the entire bike (probably next year) but the decals for the lower fairing were wrong.





Actually, I'm pretty pleased. I haven't been too successful with this type of painting in the past..... Used the baby gun from Harbor Crap Freight at .04 nozzle and sprayed about 6 coats on it....

Part is baking in the Georgia Sun.... I'm a bit too anxious to mount it (as usual). I'll get it on tonight.

She's coming along..... Might have screwed the pooch trying to upgrade the mirrors. (NO THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BE HD PARTS).

I ordered some from Europe that were total CRAP mounts but the mirror heads were identical to YAMAHA OEM. I tried to transplant the EURO purchased head (L) on the OEM post..... Needless to say not a big success in my mind....

Originals from the Mothership (Yamaha not Harley) have been on order for 4 months. Delivery date now 9/27 (the date has moved several times and will likely end up moving again). They have the RIGHT instock but wont ship until the LEFT arrives from Japan. UGH!! $250 dollars worth and still waiting months!!!

Finished? Maybe not..... but CLOSE (Fuel Leak & New Seat)



I believe I'm getting pretty close to done with this machine (for now). The bike has been getting a LOT of riding time and I'm pretty pleased with it. I THINK I have the anti-dive dialed in as much as possible and it appears to work well under light to moderate braking. The Anti-Dive appears worthless under heavy braking conditions. Yamaha only offered this anti-dive on the FJ1200 for a couple of years and I assume the complexity and lack of performance was likely the reason.

I'm TINKERING around with the monoshock and trying to get that dialed in. Planning on using this machine and my Ugly Duckling for 2-Up at the VYR with Nancy. She's still not comfortable even getting on this machine without a back rest/back constraint. My seat guy is completely overwhelmed with work so the new seat will be done just a few days before the VYR.... not much time for testing.



I've also played around a little with soft bags as shown in the photo. I like them and they work well but must be a bit higher up than where I use them on the XS11's. Without a pair of traditional shocks to keep them out of the rear wheel area I'm mounting them rather high up.



SMELLY HOUSE & Damaged Floor Tiles
The other day, we awoke to the smell of gas.... REALLY BAD. I had filled the bike on my return home trip and parked her in the garage. I must have had TWO simultaneous failures. The vacuum petcock did not stop the fuel flow and a minimum of one float must have stuck as well. Gas all over the back of the garage. I ordered a new petcock from RPM Motorsports (the go-to-guys for FJ parts) and I believe I have the issued resolved. This model FJ is known for the supply nipple dislodging from the petcock as it is only a press & glue fit. The replacement is safety wired in to help avoid this catastrophic failure frequently resulting in fire.

The FJ has been designated to the back porch until I am absolutely sure the leak is no longer an issue.



Hopefully, I can get all the WRINKLES ironed out before the VYR...... Today, I get to pull out the Ugly Duckling and get her ready for another trip to North Carolina.

YES. I like them both but the bags on Mayberry make her impossible to get in the van without taking up the space of two bikes. Also, although they are basically identical year machines with: identical carbs, identical dyna coils, etc...... Dead Duck seems more powerful. Maybe it's only that Ugly Duck was my first REAL vintage bike and my first XS1100. I also have a LOT more riding miles on Ugly Duck.

The FZR is running well after my scare with the OIL lamp. She too had a bit of a problem with a sticky float but that is resolved. Yesterday, I was working on fabricating a "BUM STOP" for my newly acquired rear seat cover. I purchased this from the UK and it came without the Bum Stop. These rear covers are VERY hard to find and always VERY expensive. Fortunately, I was able to re-paint this one (match is a little off) and the bum stop will complete the deal. Still looking for replacement decals.....

Pensacola will NOT be making the trip this year. I finished all the wiring and installed the tank w/new fuel lines & etc. Bike starts right up! BUT, there appears to be something very wrong in the gear box. Possibly a shift detent cam issue or similar. Something wrong inside that box. Hopefully simple but there is no time to pull that all apart and repair before VYR.

Nice project and nice work. I bought a lightly crashed
’88 FJ 1200 removed damaged upper fairings and windshield and installed conventional handlebars, really enjoyed that bike
