None of those chicken hawks have any family members in the service. That's why they dare not ask for citizens to enlist in their "noble cause of freedom".

The poll needs an "all of the above" choice at the bottom.

Price I paid three weeks running:

        $0.00 per gallon

My brother in law owns a salvage yard. Buisness is booming - and before the cars go to the shredder the tanks have to be drained. He asked me to bring my van with it's 40 gallon tank over for a fill up so that he could make room for the next batch of incoming cars :-)

But if I went to the station it would be around 3.00 per gallon.

Multiple choices are allowed in this poll.

Today price here, unbranded 87 $3.299, 91 $3.499, Shell, 87 $3.329, 91 $3.529. Now the cheap stuff is close to the majors in price hereabouts.

All of the listed items in the poll are factors contributing to high gas prices.

If the president was in the pocket of big oil, then why can't the oil companies drill any place they'd like to?

Gas might be cheap here in the US compared to other places, but I just talked to a guy (about 60ish) working in a grocery store stocking the shevles and we go talking. turns out he has diabetes, no insurance, and so I asked him what he takes for it. He says "tylenol" and then told me he has already had a toe amputated.

Crazy here's this guy working for a living and he's getting cut away a little at a time becuase he can't afford medical attention.

Dunno if it was this forum or another but someone from the UK was explaining that their $6 USD/US gallon minus their exhorbitant taxes equalled about $1.89/gallon. If you subtract the taxes we pay in the states our gas actually costs way more than $1.89/gallon. Not sure why this is but it's something to think about.

I believe one of the reasons we import so much of our oil is that the plan is to use up everyone else's oil before our own leaving us in the catbird seat.

My local newspaper tells me that President Bush has succumbed to pressure from those members of the congress up for re-election who are hearing the howls of pain from their constituents. He is taking some steps to lower gasoline prices. Don't expect too much though. Maybe there will also be a temporary further lowering just before the election. Would be a smart move on the part of the oil companies.

2.72, 2.62 with Kroger Card for Reg

                    2.92, 2.82 for Premium

Why am I happy about that? Do you see where the Senate has a bill to pay everyone a $100 for gas to make up for the increases? Leaves me about $550 short for the year between SWMBO's van, the Jeep and the Battle Cruiser.

Of course, there is a provision for opening more areas on the US for exploration and drilling. That should have happened 5 years ago. Then we wouldn't be in this position.

Has anyone any thoughts or experience on how enthanol will affect an XS?

The reason is there is abundant north coast off shore oil off the Scottish and Irish coasts and they refine it locally. Ever wonder why the UK won't just let northern Ireland go back to Irish control? Hint: it's the same reason Russia won’t let Chechnya split off.

Don’t believe everything you read in the newspaper, not ever the so-called good papers. They’re all full of BS.

Even though I'm an environmentalist of sorts I am definitely in favor of more exploration and drilling.

We actually have abundant oil in California but we wind up paying more for gasoline despite this. We pay on average 13 cents a gallon more than the rest of the states but our gas costs way more than 13 cents more than the rest of the country.

An auto forum that I'm on had a gas price thread right after Katrina. Fellow in Missouri posted that although prices spiked to well over $3 after Katrina they went down to $2.19 after a week or so. At the same time we were paying well over $3 in California. Refinery spokesmen said that this was because we were exporting gasoline to the east since many refineries were down because of the hurricane. It appears that California gasoline was being sold in the east for far less than it was here. Interestingly enough the lowest price for gasoline in my county was at the Valero stations. This oil company had just had it's Louisiana refinery wrecked by Katrina. None of this makes any sense to me.

Ment to say we pay 13 cents a gallon more in taxes than the rest of the country.

I guess I should amend my post to say that we need RESPONSIBLE exploration and drilling. I love my mother Earth too. That being said, new wells won't pay off for a while and our refining capacity is not up to snuff either. Oil won't last for ever, we DO need to find alternatives, fuel cells, bio diesel, whatever. Just let's make sure there is enough 94 Octane left to ride XS's!

Another option is to find a way to decrease the fuel dependency...buying cars that do not burn so much of the dinojuice.

Now, that would really hurt the oil companies...

Not using so much Dino Juice is one reason the XS is getting so many miles this year. My other vehicles top out at around 22 MPG and aren't near as much fun to ride. I am strongly considering getting my XT 500 back into Daily Driver shape. I was getting 60 MPG from it three years ago.
