    • Oil company profiteering

Been avoiding this thread as it's been done before and there be a lack of “critical thinking” here.

Current gas here in CA CA land, $3.59 (mid-grade), (diesel has dropped to $4.49)

So if we were to screw the evil oil companies and confiscate all of there profits mid-grade fuel price would drop to $3.30 per gallon

      No profit gas, $3.30
minus Fed excise tax, $018.3 per gallon, $3.117
minus state excise tax, $0.18 per gallon $2.937
minus state sales tax in my county, About $0.28 per gallon $2.657
(8.75% which taxes the above taxes too)
      Total CA CA taxes $0.64.3

So with NO profit and NONE of the obvious taxes, saving of $0.933
Since the oil companies are corporations they also have to pay:
Income taxes, import taxes, business taxes on both land and equipment, permits and transportation taxes, environmental taxes/fees , a slew of fees and local taxes, employment taxes etc. etc. etc. all of which add up to billions more in taxes.

In CA CA land the true “wind fall” income from high fuel cost is the state which makes more from the sale of a gallon of fuel with just the sales tax than the evil oil companies do.

High fuel costs raise the price of everything,
from the food you eat to the shoes you wear to turning on the lights in your house.
In the eyes of the politicians there be big benefits of high fuel prices.
Wonder if you can figure that one out.....

      • I did the conversions from metric and Canadian bucks to US. The price we are paying this month in central Alberta is (low) $4.16 to (high) $4.63 right now. We are an oil rich province but of course world prices dictate what oil sells for. The oil industry drives a lot of our economy as well so other prices are driven up accordingly. I guess we are going to have to come up with a Flux Capacitor for our 1100's so we do not have to rely on Oil.

        • When George Bush gave his speech about opening up the coastal shelf of the U.S. to oil exploration the price of a barrel of oil dropped 10 bucks in 10 minutes.
I watched it happen on CNN.

From what I understand at current supply/demand ratio the cost for a barrel of oil should be $60.00. Gas should be about $2.00

Of course this is all speculation.

There a lot of tools open to Congress to curb speculation and margin sales whuch they could have used instead of going on vacation.
Oil should be treated with the same market regulations as Milk.
The supply will also have to increase with the demand. We have it lets use it.
I'll buy a wind generator and replace my Fuel oil tank with a geothermal heat pump when the prices come down to where I can afford them.

As far as the idea that airing up your tires will solve our current energy crisis? Thats just plain old retarded.
Fortunately George Bush was there for future Pres. O. to blame it all on.

So please note that all I ever say here is with a bit of a smile and friendship, even when we disagree. Especially when it comes to politics and religion.

BTW I do not and have never been an oil company worker, and I don't play one on TV.
Although you have to admit, that Exxon CEO gig sounds pretty sweet.
I agree completely... ergo the writing style and the use of the smilies

Being one that was 'blessed' with a measure of dry humour, this was one that was too good to pass up.

This was simply an ironic, satirical and paradoxical reply to a post that attempts to justify, through the eyes of the oil industry, the prices that we are being charged for gas.

As was stated above, "You have to always take what folks post with a grain of salt and a smile." So why the exception?

Pretty good performance from electrics, prices are high, but hey with most technology that's the case at the beginning.

Still need pretroleum products to make them though.

                • Out of the plug in thingy in the wall. (better yet recharge them with a gas powered generator lol)

That's an oft forgotten aspect to electric and hybrid vehicles. When you stop to consider the amount of energy required to produce these vehicles, and the materials going into them, do the benefits outweigh keeping a clunker on the road for a few more years? I think not.

Additionally, a local TV station purchased at least one hydbrid Ford Escape and plastered it with stickers saying this black vehicle is "Green". They kept it for two years and now have a new one. How is that beneficial to the environment?

I only posted the links cause I thought the performance aspect was cool.

Stupid part is; There is no reason that 'hot' ford should get 9mpg!!

                          My 500+hp, with a Ford 9" and p/u gears gets 14mpg.

I figure, if I put in normal car gears ie; 3.08 or better, I should be close to, if not into the 20mpg range.

We were going to try it with Derwat's 454 Class A motorhome, until it was stolen.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

You would be referring to "natural gas" which when refined is mostly methane and is odorless
Mercaptan (a chemical) is added for the "smelly part" so you can detect leaks etc....

Right now my new gas range is sitting in the garage and the one in the kitchen be electric....so if I were to put me head in there would just get toasted
