Hey MartyA: you should get the banner today; I sent it Priority Mail last Friday or so. Return addy is on the address label.

I had hoped to make the East Coast rally this year, but also want to make it to Revelstoke (BC) this fall. One concern was gas prices, decided to make only the closer rally partly due to fuel costs.

Trouble is these high gas prices cut into my fun; my snowmobile gets 11 - 12 mpg and the XJ between 32 - 36 depending on driving style. The days of spending $10 for an afternoon out on the sled or bike are long gone. I put only a few hundred miles on the sled this year, probably will put fewer miles than normal on the XJ as well. BTW, I keep a log in each car listing gas fills, maintenance, that sort of thing. Looking back, the average price of 87 octane through all of 2003 was $1.65, even though at the end of the year price was going up. At one point in late 2002 gas was less than $1.00 per gallon in Prescot, AZ. How times have changed in 3 years. I just wish my income had gone up at the same rate.

Gas broke $3 here in Milwaukee today. There are a few that are still 2.93 for 87 octane. I filled up my car. Last year I filled up about now too, and didn't have to refill it until october.

xs's may not get the greatest milage, but it is still better than a cage.
I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.

It's probably not going to last, but I got 93 octane for the Battle Cruiser yesterday at Kroger for 2.69 with the discount from my Kroger card. Non card price: $2.79

Reg Unlead fro Swmbo's lead sled: 2.59 Needless to say, after I got home,I took her van back to Kroger. 40 gallon tank, a few cents make a big difference in cost.

Gasoline here went up again, yesterday. Now regular is $2.959/gal and supreme [92 to 93 octane] is $3.099 per gal.
I "spoiled" the bike again this morning at the pump.

Yesterday morning the Conoco station that I had mentioned before had gone up TEN CENTS over night! $3.13 for premium, and I saw it at another station for $3.29! It costs me over $10 FREAKIN' BUCKS just to fill up.

                John, I feel your pain...
My standard tank, needing 4.4 gallons, is costing me close to $15, every other day!!
The gas prices for regular are getting close to $3.00 at the cheapest stations, and some of the good ones are at $3.20. And the next grade up is a $.15 boost, not just $.10.

El Cheapo regular is now $3.109/gallon. My local corner grocery still has reg for $2.89 but when they get their new gas shipment I bet it'll go up to over $3. Cars were lined up there last night.

                    Of course.
The summer driving season is upon us so the prices have to go up to meet the increased demand (or so we're told).
At the end of summer they have to switch to the winter blend of gas (like changing from summer air to winter air in your tires?). This winter gas costs more to refine so the price goes up, or so we're told.
Next year the driving season will be upon us again so the price has to go up to meet the increased demand, or so we're told.

Right Pat, just like they raised prices when they added MTBE to the gas "because it costs more to add MTBE". Then when MTBE was banned it cost them more to make gasoline without MTBE so they raised prices again. BTW has anyone else noticed the drop in power and mileage with MTBE formulations and the post MTBE increased alcohol content?

Oh boo hoo hoo, the poor downtrodden oil companies are having to jump through all these hoops to comply with all the "insane environmental regulations". Getting harder and harder to turn all time record profits every quarter. Speaking of insane environmental regulations, the MTBE fiasco was an example of an insane environmental regulation which the oil companies managed to sell to the stupid bureaucrats who make these regulations. More like a "mental" regulation, forget the enviro...

                          Lake County gas prices 4/22/06

Lower Lake Shell station, yesterday, read 'em and weep:

$3.349/gal. 87 octane with a 10 cent bump each for the better grades. Diesel is $3.339 and with most goods shipped by truck this means across the board inflation. My prediction, $6/gallon by next year...hope I'm wrong.

The snaky government down here is looting another $27 million a year everytime petrol goes up 5 cents a litre. Is it true that America has trillions of barrels worth of crude oil in the form of oilshale which is easily accessible. Apparently there's more crude oil in the States than in the whole middle east. But Bush ain't havin' none of it.
